Very cool... "Another crack in the Windows Genuine Advantage wall. A user at UbuntuForums.org managed to validate an Ubuntu installation as a genuine copy of Microsoft Windows and get to the download page of Windows Defender, using IE4Linux and Wine. (Here is an OGG video of the process.) Along with the advancement of LiveCD technology, this could spell the end of Microsoft's control over who gets their updates." Hmmm... let's see. "We are in a hazardous environment so taking a closer look at the people you associate yourself with can be a good idea." Well, $50.00 isn't exactly cheap, but it would be nice to take a closer look at the people that I (am going to) associate with. :) RE: Background Check Anyone - No.1 Source of Public Records |

There is an elusive euphoria stage of Red Bull consumption where you are unbelievably productive and yet task that seemly take hours take only about 27 minutes or so. That was the odd thing. It always seemed 27 minutes later. I like to call this stage "Fry-Time" in reference to that Futurama episode where Fry drinks 100 cups of coffee and time slows to a crawl. Fry-Time occurs only in a narrow band on the line between total exhaustion and caffeine-induced heart attack and is a difficult stage to reach. I've hit Fry-Time maybe 3-4 times ever. 2 of those times have happened in the last 2 weeks. Then, there is the "attention deficient disordering" stage. This stage occurs beyond Fry-Time and before the caffeine-induced heart attack phase. In this phase, you want to be productive. You are aware of all the work you need to accomplish as well as its importance. You feel motivated and excited about all your projects. In fact, it feels like you are in the Fry-Time stage. But you aren't. You are ADDing. Because as soon as you try to do something. You can't. Halfway through your brain jumps to thinking about another task and you stall. Its like OS scheduler that has so many jobs to do it spends all it time context switching instead of actually making any progress on any of them. This is an extremely frustrating phase because you know what's happening. And the very act of noticing that you are being scattered brained brings to mind all the tasks you still need to do which makes you think about how cool some of them are and suddenly you aren't doing any more work on whatever it was you were working on. You've context switched to another job.
What a cool description of something that I've tried to verbalize to others regarding energy and caffiene drinks. Red Bull is certainly safer than Jolt, which used to be a teeth-hurting mainstay for me. RE: Taming the Bull |

Are you kidding? As a child I was terrified to be different. As an adult I came into my weirdness.
my bouts of psychosis have taught me the value of being normal (something often much underrated [people scoff and laugh at "the straight world" without understanding that they're often the median and core of our civilisation and usually they're honest, decent and tolerant]). I have also learnt that if i want to be tolerated i must tolerate in return. Although it has to be said that different cultures have different attitudes towards conformity. I am lucky enough to be English and in my culture the eccentric is often valued.
There were times growing up where I revelled in being different. I think when you "grow up" you are supposed to lose your imagination, your sense of curiosity and your dreams. This should never be the case. People like us need to not worry about what "society" thinks about our idiosyncrasies. If we look at the "normal" world, we see a lot of people who, at least on the surface, appear to be well adjusted, productive menbers of society. These are the people to watch out for. These are the people that we find out are the psychopaths, etc. RE: The Difficulty of Being Different |
