Topic: Health and Wellness 11:43 am EDT, May  9, 2003

May 6, 2003 -- Exactly how a person’s eyes respond to low levels of light is even more crucial than doctors have thought in deciding who is and who isn’t a good candidate to have laser vision correction surgery, according to results announced today at the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in Ft. Lauderdale. The findings should help doctors choose patients who are likely to fare well with the surgery, and to forego recommending treatment for others.

Don Gorske is already in the Guinness Book of World Records for eating Big Macs ? but it's not about the fame anymore.

Gorske, who downed his 19,000th Big Mac Tuesday, said he wouldn't know what else to eat if it weren't for Big Macs.

"I'd be clueless," he said, adding that he ate a piece of pizza recently, but it "just wasn't the same."

"It wasn't my first choice," he said.

Gorske, 49, of Fond du Lac, eats two Big Macs per day and drinks little else beside Coke. He also keeps track of everything he eats in a notebook.

] ''One afternoon while he was napping on the couch as I
] read a book, he played out a scene more awful than
] anything I had ever seen or heard. He rolled off the
] couch and hit the floor. Normally, a fall to the floor
] would have awakened him. But instead he began roaring
] like a wounded wild animal. I sat in my chair frozen with
] fear as I watched the unbelievable scene unfold. He
] roared, he crouched, he pounced and finally crawled into
] a space between the couch and the wall, as if in a den or
] lair. When I was able to speak I shouted to awaken him.
] He could not believe my description of what had just
] happened, even though he was surprised to find himself on
] the floor.''

This was a very interesting read about sleep disorders. Some of them are really amazing to say the least.
