Mind blowing delivery of Identity 2.0 |

My friend Steve Clayton, long time employee of Microsoft and general geek genius, posted a video which really blew my mind. The delivery of this “presentation” by Dick Hardt, who recently joined the corporation, is unique in style, and will draw you in, like some crack addict being tempted with a chocoloate fudge brownie. While this video may not directly involve or to do with students, it’s an interesting delivery style which should be noted for those inevitable presentations we’ll have to give. Also, some of the content about the next generation of identity; how we use it, in what forms, online and offline, is certainly for students. After all, we are the next generation of IT users - this is what we need to look out for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrpajcAgR1E&e Mind blowing delivery of Identity 2.0 |

PARIS — A French bank announced Thursday that it had lost $7.2 billion, not because of complex subprime loans, but the old-fashioned way — because a 31-year-old rogue trader made bad bets on stocks and then, in trying to cover up those losses, dug himself deeper into a hole.

President George W Bush has condemned Iran as the foremost threat to global security as he attempted to rally Gulf states behind a tougher line against the Islamic Republic during a tour of the region. In a keynote speech in Abu Dhabi President Bush said it was time to confront an Iran that supported terrorism and defied the United Nations to pursue secret nuclear research. "Iran is today the world's leading state sponsor of terror," he said. "It sends hundreds of millions of dollars to extremists around the world while its own people face repression and economic hardship at home.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The Chinese government backed up its recent words with action Thursday, allowing the yuan currency to appreciate against the U.S. dollar in its tightly controlled foreign-exchange market at the fastest pace since Beijing ended its U.S. dollar "peg" in 2005. The yuan closed Chinese over-the-counter trading at a new high of 7.3175 against the dollar, up 0.37% from Wednesday's close of 7.3444 -- its biggest daily rise ever. Shortly before the close, the yuan hit an intraday high of 7.3131. "It's a huge move," said Win Thin, senior currency strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman. "I don't think it's in response to outside pressure, but rather to help China's domestic situation and fight inflation."

"The drama in the Democratic race is created by a simple fact: If Hillary Clinton is going to be stopped, it's most likely to happen in Iowa," Schneider said. "If Clinton wins Iowa, she could be unstoppable. If she loses Iowa, she may also lose New Hampshire and South Carolina. Then we've got a real race on our hands." An American Research Group poll conducted December 20-23 had Clinton leading the field in Iowa with the support of 34 percent of likely Democratic caucus-goers, while Obama received the support of 20 percent while Edwards had 19 percent. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. However, in what may be a sign of the race's volatility, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted December 14-18 showed a much tighter race, with Clinton leading with 30 percent, Obama at 28 percent and Edwards at 26 percent. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 5 percentage points.

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board. By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier. According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy. The Americans had no idea China's fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.
