TN Enhancement Grants Controversy(MP3)
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:11 pm EDT, Oct 29, 2007

ommunity Enhancement Grants Controversy: This year, state legislators set aside $20 million dollars for a program that supporters called “Community Enhancement Grants”, but critics termed “pork barrel spending”. So far, only $2 million has been awarded, but some legislators are reportedly upset because they’re afraid some of their pet projects won’t get funded. Our state capitol correspondent, Joe White came in to the studio to discuss the controversy with WPLN’s Morning Edition Host, Jacqueline Fellows. (10/25/07)

I think our local ham radio club filled out the application correctly but now we are probably getting turned down because we are "NOT a PET project."

This is not direct represenatation!

WTF!

Another fun product for the SparkFun fans. This AVR based kit converts an X-Y analog oscilloscope into an analog clock! Easy to assemble through-hole kit. You will need to provide your own oscilloscope of course.

Spartan-3E Evaluation card (500,000 gate FPGA)
Topic: Technology 9:48 pm EDT, Oct 28, 2007

The Spartan-3E Evaluation card is a full breakout of almost every pin of the Spartan 3E 500,000 gate FPGA in a PQ208 Package. Also provided are the 3 power supplies, an SPI prom to store the FPGA configuration image, and a RS232 level shifter for easy serial communications. RS232 and power board can be sheared off for a completely isolated breakout board.

Sparkfun has some cool DIY stuff for just about anything ...

Some where a while back I posted a story about using FPGA's to crack code...

Realigning Your Point of Attraction: The Art of Becoming «
Topic: Miscellaneous 5:33 pm EDT, Oct 27, 2007

Here’s one of my favorite quotes from my teacher in India, Nisargadatta Maharaj:

There is nothing to do. Just be. Do nothing. Be.
No climbing mountains and sitting in caves.
I do not even say “be yourself” since you do not know yourself.
Just be.

This idea may contradict everything you’ve been taught and how you’ve lived so far, but let it sink in anyway. If your lifetime inventory of ideas and rules has contributed to your being one of those 112 million who use medication to handle nonexistent stress, you can certainly afford to entertain this thought. As you begin practicing the principles to realign with a vibration that matches your desire for a tranquil, peaceful life, you’ll become more conscious of your thoughts. These thoughts of yours literally determine who you are. And the fact that you’re reading these words suggests that you’re interested in becoming more conscious of your thoughts.

Being and becoming are used synonymously here. In order to restore a sense of balance between your desire for tranquility and your desire to meet the requirements of your life, you must practice becoming, and being the vibration that you desire.

read past the cheesy title and you will find out it is a great read...

SimpsonizeMe (Fun Flash Toy)
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:18 pm EDT, Oct 18, 2007

There are some dreams that we have to admit to ourselves will never come true. I'll most likely never get the chance to travel to another planet. And my chances of becoming a world famous rock star get smaller every year.

But I have finally gotten the chance to fulfill one of my long-held dreams.

I am now a character on The Simpsons.

I know what you're thinking. How did you pull that off?

Well, I am now a resident of the town of Springfield, thanks to a great new Web application called the Simpsonizer. Using this simple application I was able to upload a photo of myself and with the help of the aliens Kang and Kodos I was converted into a properly drawn cartoon character from the Simpsons.

The application itself is simple enough and it provides plenty of appearance and clothing options (plus the ability to put yourself in scenes, like going to the Kwik-E-Mart).

Couple of tips. The site is busy so if you can go at off hours that will probably work best. Also, try to use a pure headshot without a lot going on in the background.

With a little luck, in no time you will see yourself in the same way that Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa would. I have to say, it is a very cool application.

haha try it...

Or to put it as famous Springfield news anchor Kent Brockman would, "Is the Simpsonizer the most important technology innovation of our time? This reporter says, Yes!"

Junk Hacked... FPGA-based SHA-1 and MD5 bruteforce cracker...
Topic: Miscellaneous 6:29 pm EDT, Sep 17, 2007

NSA@home is a fast FPGA-based SHA-1 and MD5 bruteforce cracker. It is capable of searching the full 8-character keyspace (from a 64-character set) in about a day in the current configuration for 800 hashes concurrently, using about 240W of power. This performance is equivalent to over 1500 Athlon FX-60 CPUs, which would take about 250kW.

Kick ass! and look at the hit map he has too...

Gavin
