] ] At 10:00 pm EST, August 20th 2003 Broadfield Road in ] Manlius, New York. I observed a white glowing round ] object approximately the size of a bottle cap at half an ] arms length, slowly traveling from South to North ] (approx. 40 M.P.H .) low in the western sky (approx.. 300 ] ft.). The object had about the same luminescence as a ] bright full moon and could still be seen as it passed ] behind the areas trees. Unrestricted viewing observation ] time was about 2 seconds, total observation time was ] approximately 5 seconds before the object left the area. Apperently Mars causes UFO reports. :) --timball UFO Sighting August 20, 2003 in Manlius, New York |

] Researchers have identified a genetic factor that may ] predispose young people to harmful drinking habits. A ] team of scientists interviewed college students about ] their alcohol consumption and then analyzed their genetic ] profiles, or genotypes. They found that students who ] shared a particular variant of the serotonin transporter ] gene (5HTT) consumed more alcohol per occasion, more ] often drank expressly to become inebriated, and were more ] likely to engage in binge drinking than students without ] the variant. The study appears in the current issue of ] the journal Alcohol and Alcoholism. I blame my sophmore year in college on my genes. Quick story: Get some scientists, throw them in a boat. Make them go out 500mi east of New England and dive to deep coral reefs to study ancient weather patterns. (+ fun pretty pictures and swimming robots) Detailed story: The hypothesis states that the cyclical (over many many years) movement of the deep North Atlantic causes dramatic weather changes affecting the entire planet. To test the theory coral in the north atlantic will be sampled to reconstuct past weather conditions. A fundemental problem in the understanding Earth's weather pattern is the movement of deep ocean currents. Specifically it seems (http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/gccourse/alumni/ocean/ocean.html) that the movement of warm north atlantic water down to the equator acts like a meteorilogical "engine" driving climate change. But very little is known about the "engine" part. The New England Seamount is a large ridge in the middle of the atlantic ocean. It rises steeply out of the sea floor and is direct line with these north atlantic ocean currents. By studying the composition of the coral rock scientists are able to backsolve and figure out what ancient weather was like. DIVE AND DISCOVER: Expeditions to the Seafloor |

Total lunar eclipses happen when the earth gets between the sun and the moon. Because of the relatively low amount of particulates in the air it should look chocolate and brown. MMmmm.... chocolate. The eclipse starts tomorrow (thursday the 15th) at 10pm EDT and ends around 1am. Total Lunar Eclipse: May 15-16, 2003 |
