Supreme Court issues stay posponing Texas' 300th episode..errr..execution
Topic: Science 7:33 pm EST, Mar 12, 2003

Looks like this has been put on hold for a while. Now, I'm not familiar with this case but one particular thing struck me as odd, from the article:
Banks shot Whitehead "for the hell of it" after a night of drinking, according to testimony Banks gave at his trial.

Now, if you admit to the crime, at your trial, doesn't that make you guilty? What else is there to discuss?

"Through the years, I have greatly feared and sought to keep at bay the four beasts that inevitably devour their keeper -- Ego, Envy, Avarice, and Ambition."

And therin lies the problem. People who start and/or run businesses end up getting consumed by ambition and ego. Their businesses end up failing, or failing to meet the full potential becuase that person refuses to make an organization that can function without him or her. This seems unnatural since many people feel they *are* their work and if their work doesn't rely on them they feel they are wandering without purpose.

UPDATE: Whoops. That should be "People who start and/or run businesses *usually* end up.." I should proofread my posts better.

This is an easy one to file under civil liberties due to the forseen abuse this system will cause.

Two suspects arrested in Web bank theft - Mar. 6, 2003

Alright. This borders on light grey. In my mind a keystroke logger alone does not make one a hacker. Opinions obviously vary.

The Horror of Blimps
Topic: Humor 12:45 am EST, Mar  6, 2003

I don't want to give it away but this is just too funny,

"I always knew this was going to happen. I always knew that skepticism and science were mere psychological decorations and vanities. Deep in our alligator brains we all know that the world is just chock full of evil and monsters and sinister forces aligned against us, and it is only a matter of time until they show up. Evolution know this, too. It knows what to do when the silent terror comes at you from out of the dark."

Color change to $20 bills imminent - Mar. 5, 2003

Remember the game, Monopoly, where you land on a space and buy it? You repeat this until you have $2 left and hope your investments will pay off. Well, I wonder if this new money, with bright fruity colors will make people think the same way. Hey it's only play money. Right?

Starting a home based business
Topic: Business 2:44 pm EST, Mar  3, 2003

What a day. I've filed Articles of Incorporation, obtained an EIN and ordered a fancy corporate kit and seal. I tried opening a business banking account and was told I need a business license. A quick call to the local zoning board confirmed, I need a "Home Occupational License". But there is a catch, I was told I am not legally allowed to operate a business in my garage (which is where my desk sits). Now, since my business resides on a single laptop I'm curious what happens when I move from the designated office space (my couch), to say, the bedroom or even the back porch. It's amazing what rules and laws are in place that people don't even know about. So much for my dreams of being the next Apple, or Walmart.

Damn, Damn, Damn now I'm going to have to get rid of my Johnny Cash tracks, particularly Hurt, Man In Black, and Ring of Fire because everyone going to be running around in a melancholy state and wearing black because Gibson says its cool...oh, wait..
