Damn. This guy always takes the moral high ground. Impressive.
Taking responsibility would require him to make up for the damage he's responsible for. If that is not possible, he should resign. RE: CNN.com |

WAKEMAN, Ohio (AP) - Sheriff's deputies removed 11 children from a home where they were locked in cages less than 3 1/2 feet high, authorities said. The children's adoptive and foster parents, Mike and Sharen Gravelle, denied that they'd abused or neglected the children during a custody hearing Monday in Huron County. No charges had been filed as of Monday night.

Pentagon Revises Nuclear Strike Plan |

The Pentagon has drafted a revised doctrine for the use of nuclear weapons that envisions commanders requesting presidential approval to use them to preempt an attack by a nation or a terrorist group using weapons of mass destruction. The draft also includes the option of using nuclear arms to destroy known enemy stockpiles of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.
Um... Who do you "nuke" when a couple people might try to bomb you? Do we roll dice? Sending nukes after terrorists is sort of like blowing up an apartment building to kill a mouse. The Pre-emptive bit is troublesome... I wonder who's job it'll be to figure out thay=t "They" are after us. Pentagon Revises Nuclear Strike Plan |

Bush administration snubs Cuban hurricane relief offer |

Among the many offers of aid for New Orleans and Gulf Coast disaster victims that the Bush administration has either blocked, squandered or delayed is that of a substantial emergency medical brigade from Cuba. The Cuban government of President Fidel Castro offered in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation to send over 1,000 doctors and 36 tons of medicine and equipment to the disaster zone. After 10 days, the Bush administration has yet to even dignify the Cuban proposal—which has since swelled to more than 1,500 doctors, due to a flood of volunteers—with a reply. The offer involves real and badly needed aid that is quickly deployable. Cuba is nearer to the affected areas than Miami, barely an hour’s plane trip away, twice as close as New York. Moreover, the country’s doctors are internationally recognized as among the most experienced and qualified in emergency relief, having participated not only in responding to hurricanes in their own country, but in providing aid to disaster-stricken populations throughout the Americas, Africa and elsewhere.

Barbara Bush on those lucky refugees |

"Somebody asked George H.W. Bush Monday about the criticism of his son's handling of Hurricane Katrina, and the former president said that the critics ought to tell it to his wife -- and that they ought to don a flak jacket before trying. But this morning, it's Barbara Bush herself who might want to think about some protective clothing, at least metaphorically speaking. The former first lady toured the Astrodome Monday, and along the way she opined that many of the refugees from New Orleans were so poor to begin with that they ought to be pretty happy with their temporary digs in Houston. "What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas," Barbara Bush said in comments first aired on the public radio program "Marketplace" and reprinted by Editor & Publisher. "Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them." In the midst of that last line, you can hear the former first lady chuckling." There just aren't words, really, to say how tactless that was. Barbara Bush on those lucky refugees |
