Muhammad Perspectives - a photoset on Flickr
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:46 am EDT, Oct 15, 2006

There has been much debate in regard to my original Muhammad drawing. I contend that my perspective is equally as valid as the muslim perspective (even though I don't agree that Muhammad is holy). I also contend that these views can co-exist peacefully.

To show this, I am uploading 3 more drawings based on the first.

One of them is my attempt at a Muslim appeasing piece with the same message, only for a Muslim audience.

The second I hide Muhammad's face with a slice of cheese. This is a reference to an argument I made about a hypothetical cheese god. This is a more compromised view, where I'm still able to hold the position that he is not holy to me and yet do not depict the face. It is also a sarcastic jab at the demand for censorship.

The third is BLATANTLY offensive. There is nothing about it's message I agree with. Many of the arguments made on the first cartoon complained about how offensive it was. I upload this one for comparisons sake. And also, If I am being made to make concessions to how I wish to depict muhammad in the first place by creating a "holy" Muhammad, I feel that showing an "Evil" muhammad (which I also does not fit my view) balances this. I think the viewpoint expressed in this cartoon is somewhat disgusting. It is mean spirited and stupid. I don't happen to like it, and I also don't care for the "Holy" view.

Oh. The severed head is Nick Berg.

The cartoon debate flared up again. I made a set with different viewpoints.

Youths arrested for 'otaku hunting' - MSN-Mainichi Daily News
Topic: Arts 12:02 pm EDT, Oct 12, 2006

Eight youths who engaged in what they called "otaku hunting" -- mugging geeks on the streets of Tokyo's Akihabara district -- have been arrested in three separate cases, police said Thursday.

The teens all targeted junior high school students they referred to as "Akiba-kei," or geeks who like the otaku culture found widely in retail outlets throughout Akihabara.

Police said there have been 25 reported incidents of "otaku hunting" since the start of the year, with victims losing a combined 350,000 yen between them.

"Otaku are weak and they've got money, so we went after them," one of the arrested youths told the police.

Police said one of the cases involved three boys waylaying a 14-year-old boy who was headed to Akihabara to buy an anime doll and demanding he pay them money or he would be bashed. The boy handed over 3,000 yen, the police said.

In two separate cases in July and September, two groups of boys threatened two other boys, cajoling them into handing over 1,500 yen in cash. (Mainichi)

haha! I wonder if this will spawn an Otaku civil rights movement.

The Volokh Conspiracy - District Court Holds That Border Searches of Computers Require Reasonable Suspicion:
Topic: Society 12:22 am EDT, Oct 12, 2006

If the Ninth Circuit does agree with Judge Pregerson that computer searches are "non routine," there's a decent chance that this case would be the first computer search and seizure case to get to the Supreme Court.

Sweet! I find the prospect of random laptop searches at borders to be offensive to the idea of a free society on many levels. Finally, someone has argued, and a court has accepted the arguement, that this isn't Constitutional. Now, we'll get to find out if the higher courts agree. Its on!

Small Aircraft Crashes Into N.Y. City Building
Topic: Current Events 3:20 pm EDT, Oct 11, 2006

NEW YORK -- Broadcast news reports say that a small airplane has crashed into a building in New York City.

Flames could be seen pouring from the building across two floors.

The Federal Aviation Administration told CNN that a small, multi-engine private plane struck the 20-floor residential building at 72nd Street and York Ave.

Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

"There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away."

Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street - a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

Kina Mutai
Topic: Arts 1:14 pm EDT, Oct 10, 2006

Before you begin practicing kino mutai, you must learn the essential principles. First is how to bite. You should always be cognizant of how much flesh is in your mouth. Typically, the average person will try to use all his teeth and take too much "meat" in one bite. To avoid that pitfall, you must angle your face so the pressure is applied directly on the incisors. The actual motion of the bite is a repeated circular ripping of the flesh, resulting in numerous smaller bites which, when applied cumulatively, inflict considerable damage.

The art of biting and eye gouging. Someone needs to make a Karate-Kid-esque movie with a master of this style.

North Korea said today it has performed its first-ever nuclear weapons test.

Can two world wars be fought at the same time like they film movie sequels... or do they both count as the same world war?

It's just a misplaced letter, but what a misplaced letter: Swapping a "D" for an "R" last night, Fox News and "The O'Reilly Factor" labeled disgraced pedophile Congressman Mark Foley, longtime Republican, as a Democrat.

Thanks Faux News. Why don't you just mislead people more.
