I got back home from Nashville late last night and now I have to tell everyone about it! In case you didn't already know, I went to the PhreakNIC hacker convention. There were some great talks and plenty of computer stuff to look at, but the best part was the people. I met the following Meme Streams members: Decius (the founder of Meme Streams), Dolemite (who led PhreakNIC this year), JonnyX (the founder of PhreakNIC), Maverick, Nanochick, NotLarry, Rattle, and Virgil. I'm sure I met more users and didn't even realize it. Decius' talk on Meme Streams was well received, so the system should see more users in the near future. Jason Scott of textfiles.com spoke about the history of phreaking on Friday night. I participated in Dolemite's hacker hookup and got turned down by the BSD chick from girlvinyl.com. Her questions were really hard. I don't really feel any sense of loss because whe was rather bitter and expected way too much from Dolemite's silly little version of the dating game. Sara made a great breakfast Saturday morning. (That girl can cook!) HugMe had some great insight on how to protect your wireless network from all those wardriving punks. The DashPC cars were truly wonderful. I was amazed at the clean installation and seamless integration of the Jetta. The other car looked like it was done more for show. It wasn't as practical, but it was still cool and had loads of performance. Unfortunately, Laughing Boy's 2.5 watt laser caught on fire, the collection to rebuild his laser was stolen, his computer was stolen, and he got a flat tire on the way home. :-( Over all, I had a great time. Thanks to everyone who gave their time, money, and hard work to make this great convention come together. |
