Apparently, this is old news, because they were released in Japan in mid-2007, but I just discovered these Nintendo DS alcohol-related titles. Sommelier DS Saketakumi DS (a.k.a. Sakashou DS, a.k.a. Liquor Craftsman/Teacher) Bartender DS How well these titles compare to bartending reference books remains to be seen, but there would be a certain amount of cool-factor in looking up drink recipes on a DS. Here's a page from a Japanese website that has several screen shots (no pun intended) from Bartender DS. If any of these "games" come to the U.S.A., I'll buy them on principle alone. Analysts have lauded the price cut and say PS3 sales will be strong this Christmas – although not as strong as Nintendo’s. “The PS3 is gathering momentum but Wii will remain the winner this Christmas because Sony took too long to cut prices,” says one analyst at an investment bank in Tokyo. “But the Sony games strategy is finally working and we haven’t seen that in the past two to three years.”

GM Vishwanathan Anand is the new world Chess Champion of 2007, after drawing with Peter Leko, in the 14th and last round of the World Chess Championship in Mexico, 2007. In the press conference, the new champion mentioned "You can imagine how I feel. I won a big tournament last year and this is something very special for me. I want to thank all my friends that helped me a lot. I want to thank my wife that has done everything to keep me in a good shape for competing. I also want to thank my trainer. And most of all I want to thank Mexico for its hospitality, not in so many places you can find as many chess fans as here. I always feel great in Mexico. At this moment, I can recall Mr. Saggiante's words that this would be an unforgettable championship." On the other hand, the Hungarian Peter Leko congratulated Anand, the new champion for his triumph. "I congratulate him because he deserves it. The organization was excellent, and as far as I can tell, I will keep on fighting for the title." Vishwanathan Anand was born in Madras, India, on December 11, 1969; he obtained the GM title at 16 years of age. In 1987 he was the World Juvenile Champion in Philippines. In the year 2000, he won for the first time the World Title, and according to the contract he signed with FIDE in the beginning of next year he will have to renew his title playing against the last champion Vladimir Kramnik.

Round 7: Thursday, Sept. 20th 2007, 14:00h Peter Svidler ½ - ½ Levon Aronian Vladimir Kramnik (in progess) Boris Gelfand Alexander Morozevich (in progress) Peter Leko Viswanathan Anand (in progress) Alexander Grischuk At the time of this posting, three games are still being played in the seventh of fourteen rounds (click on "Live Games" under the crosstable). Of today's four games, three of them began 1.e4 e5 (one Scotch and two Ruy Lopez), so I'm enjoying that! Of course, Kramnik played a boring Queen's Gambit. Anand and Gelfand are currently tied for first. Leko has his work cut out for him, but I'm still optimistic. Halfway Through The World Chess Championship |

I'm still using my PS3 as a BD player, primarily, so the hard drive space hasn't become an issue for me, yet. I've still got PS2 games that I haven't finished. Anyway, the last thing Sony needs to do is raise the unit price. 60GB PS3s No Longer In Sony Inventory |

Sony's David Reeves said there was a trend among publishers to subcontract the development of PlayStation 2 versions of a next-generation game. While producing a game for the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 was initially difficult, there are already many experienced programmers for the PlayStation 2, Reeves said. "You can set up your external company now, and in the next five years you can become a billionaire just developing for PS2."

This will be a Category XXI tournament, with an average rating of 2750.8. Vladimir Kramnik Viswanathan Anand Peter Svidler Alexander Morozevich Peter Leko Boris Gelfand Levon Aronian Alexander Grischuk The office pools have already started. I'm pulling for Leko (Go baby!), but I fully expect Kramnik to defend his title again. I think Anand has a legitimate shot, though. 2007 World Chess Championship in Mexico |
