outerz0ne is bad for the hacking community
Topic: Technology 10:08 pm EST, Feb  1, 2006

Please don't support seperationist movements like outerz0ne whose only goal is to make trouble instead of letting everyone have a good time.

If you don't like rockit personally, or don't like interz0ne, there is one simple thing that you should do.... DON'T GO! Don't support him or the con. It's that simple.

I cannot figure out for the life of me what anyone hopes to accomplish by going to a conference with the intent of ruining it. Start your own conference! Don't go to interz0ne. Grow a pair and stand up and say "I don't like rockit or interz0ne" and then get on with life. But going to cause trouble does nothing but further seperate this community.

Tell me one good thing that can be accomplished from this. Make interz0ne stop so that we lose a conference? Cause a further rift in the community that has completely turned on itself? Create yet more drama and push the actual hacking content even further away? What am I missing here?

What positive outcome can come of this? The only thing I can see is starting another competing conference, so if that is the goal, then STFU and do it! Otherwise GTFO out of my way so that I (and everyone else) can enjoy interz0ne!

shameful...absolutely shameful....

I didn't mean for that to come across as though it started at the time of the IPO. To clarify, I am saying that the IPO itself inserts the shareholder factor which could lead to the abuse of the data that has been captured all along. As soon as the profits start to fall, that data will be the first thing to be sold IMHO.

Before that it was still bad, but less impending.

This is a BIG red herring. They are not giving you your entire search history. They are giving you a limited amount of the actual data that they collect. You can turn this feature off, or pause it, or leave it active. But know that the fact of the matter is that they collect much more data on you than this leads you to believe.

I posted about this on slashdot recently: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=146731&cid=12292095

And the discussion went further in the binrev forums: http://www.binrev.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12014

I really think everyone should read them both to see the facts behind the story.

WOW! What a leap!

Perhaps someone at Microsoft read (or SHOULD have read) my 2600 about "leetspeak" as they call it that was published back in 2002! :o

Just in case anyone was interested, I talked about this onm episode 80 of BRR (http://radio.binrev.com) in regards to the new Microsoft anti-spyware download and the new "Genuine" program where all windows copies must be "Microsoft Authentic" to download apps and updates.

HackTV special episode 1: PWNED

A little phun from phreaknic 8 that I knew some of the members of memestreams might enjoy.

Binary Revolution - The Cryptography Episode
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:43 am EST, Jan 15, 2005

] Episode 78 - Cryptography (original air date: 01/11/2005)

Stankdawg's web radio program -- I was co-host for this week's episode. Check the link to download the MP3. We talked about some "Cryptography 101" stuff, including a brief overview of the PhreakNIC v3.0 Code and Kryptos. We ran out of time discussing the Cyrillic Projector, but may cover it in a future show.

Thanks to SD for inviting me!

Elonka :)

I have to be honest and say that I do not know where the money goes or how the cost is broken down. But 50 bucks for a weekend of hacking goodness doesn't seem so awful bad to me in and of itself. I mean, that much can easily be blown going to a movie and dinner on one night or giong drinking out at a club or something, so 50 bucks is not the issue to me personally.

The bottom line becomes the total package price. HOTEL + AIRFARE + ENTRY FEE + FOOD AND AMMENITIES = $$$ so I look at the total bottom line and make a decision based on that.

I don't know if I will be able to afford the bottom line for interz0ne.
