Rita Katz is in the kill chain!Open-source information gathering can rival, if not surpass, the clandestine intelligence produced by government agencies.
The "collaboration" section of this article essentially describes the MemeStreams model. Why aren't you selling it? (A: We are not sure anyone takes us seriously. We are working on that.) America will be a more secure country once it discards the notion that secrecy is equal to strength.
The Jebsen Center at Tufts, mentioned in this article, has an open-invite Brown Bag lunch seminar program. Coming up in February, the NYPD intelligence department will conduct a recruiting Q&A session for those interested in counterterrorism. The Wikipedia way to better intelligence |

Swab a clear liquid onto a gaping wound and watch the bleeding stop in seconds. An international team of researchers has accomplished just that in animals, using a solution of protein molecules that self-organise on the nanoscale into a biodegradable gel that stops bleeding. If the material works as well in humans, it could save thousands of lives and make surgery far easier in many cases, surgeons say.

Stealing Search Engine Queries with JavaScript |

Short and sweet: I can find out what you have been searching Google for from JavaScript. I can put this JavaScript on any site either because I own it (How much do you trust memestreamas.net?) or because I have a XSS vuln that lets me inject JavaScript in the site. Think the AOL leakage... only for everyone on the internet. Some fun use cases: -HMO’s website could check if a visitor has been searching other sites about cancer, cancer treatments, or drug rehab centers. -Advertising networks could gather information about which topics someone is interested based on their search history and use that to enchance their customer databases. -Government websites could see if a visitor has been searching for bomb-making instructions. Whitepaper: http://www.spidynamics.com/assets/documents/JS_SearchQueryTheft.pdf Proof of concept: http://www.spidynamics.com/spilabs/js-search/index.html My name is Billy, and I want to destroy the Intarweb with JavaScript. SSHFS is a really nice piece of software, because it just makes your life just a bit easier. It can 'mount' a directory of a remote SSH server and you can use it as a normal directory.
About time. NFS + SSH = SSHFS |

I do like my Aqua Team Hunger Force and RobotChicken, but I'll keep cable for the Science Channel and the National Geographic channel. The only bad thing being that they seem to be runing out of shows that I've not seen. Still, when they DO come out with a new one, I like to watch it premiere. I bet I-tunes will only have older shows? RE: New TBS, Inc. Network Programming from CNN, Adult Swim & Cartoon Network Now Available on the iTunes Music Store |

At last year's Black Hat, Cisco Systems Inc. tried to stop researcher Michael Lynn from speaking about a vulnerability that he said could let hackers virtually shut down the Internet. Cisco managed to get pages documenting the flaw torn out of all 2,000 conference binders, but ultimately the biggest maker of Internet routing and switching equipment was unable to squelch Lynn's talk.

Ancient Egyptian Fractions - Strange, but better? |

"For two very good reasons: The first reason is a practical one. Suppose you have 5 sacks of grain to share between 8 people, so each would receive 5/8 of a sack of grain in terms of present-day fractions. How are you going to do it simply, without using a calculator? You could try pouring the 5 sacks of grain into 8 heaps and, by carefully comparing them, perhaps by weighing them against each other, balance them so they are all the same! But is there a better way? We will see that using unit fractions makes this easier. The second reason is that it is much easier to compare fractions using Egyptian fractions than it is by using our present-day notation for fractions! For instance: Which is bigger: 5/8 or 4/7? You cannot use a calculator. On this page we see how both of these work in Egyptian fractions." Ancient Egyptian Fractions - Strange, but better? |
