I know these folks. These are great folks! I can't believe this is happening to THEM. What scares me though is DFCS saying they don't have to listen to ANY judge. Listen to this: http://www.georgiahomeschool.com/andrews-dfcs.mp3 http://www.georgiahomeschool.com/dfcsclip2.mp3 If judges can't tell them what to do, WHO does? Here's the website with the case details. http://savejacksonbortz.blogspot.com/ It is tragic enough that they had a baby die, but to have to go through this on top of it? THOUSANDS, maybe millions of folks know them. I hope that people calling and stuff will help. I just can't believe that DFCS says that a judge can't tell them what to do - that judgements mean NOTHING. Are they above the law? Fulton DFCS claims they are above the law |

Interesting. I never could understand how people here in the US would freak out when they saw people having to go through the Checkpoint when the Berlin wall was up. it seemed so scary to have to live like that! But there are roadblocks HERE - all over the place. That "you don't have to worry if you are not doing anything wrong" attitude is very dangerous. Papers Please : Deborah Davis |

"PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The U.S. Mint seized 10 Double Eagle gold coins from 1933, among the rarest and most valuable coins in the world, that were turned in by a jeweler seeking to determine their authenticity." ...Sounds like more fascist BS to me.... US Mint Seizes Rare Coins |

The event was fully licensed, fully legal, and non-violent. Halfway through the party, authorities arrived in full riot gear and ended the event like a full-scale riot (tear gas, attack dogs, and assault rifles).
This link to the video being shot on the stage at the point the show was shutdown appears too be working. More details about this are desired...
Google news has some coverage. So does Wikinews. Mostly the police seem to be loosing the early PR battle on this one. I imagine the video is the reason why. Also the blogosphere is putting the information in front of a lot of eyes who wouldn't otherwise see it. For years police in various communities have played the "tear gas and riot gear" approach to shutting raves down, and mostly the press has ignored the rumor mill of drugged out teenagers in favor of the perspectives of the local soccer moms. This time there is proof and alternative media. Its really hard to say that it makes sense to send people into a party dressed like Marines. The tactic is obviously designed to intimidate people. I hope they find the backlash similarly intimidating. When are the American people going to WAKE UP???? THe war on drugs is nothing but a WAR on the American people. It is a war on OUR KIDS. You don't treat diabetics this way, why do you treat recreational drug users this way? Drugs are a health problem, not a criminal problem. They only become a criminial problem IF YOU MAKE THEM that, and you make them that ONLY to imprison the free that you don't LIKE. RE: Post RAVE act, post PATRIOT act America | MetaFilter |

Wiccan parents MAY teach their children their religion, a court of Appeals ruled in Indiana. It is crazy to me that the court of appeals ever had to hear this case in the first place! Court limits on parent's faith limited |

] "Let history be witness I am a criminal." This story is interesting on a number of levels. Outwardly, you've got the small town library fighting to protect it's patron list. Secondly, you've got the FBI not using the Patriot act to collect that list. Its informative on that level. They likely didn't use the patriot act because the conservatives are fond of defending the ability to collect library records by saying that its never been used. On the other hand, because they didn't use the patriot act the library is screaming to high heaven about the inquiry. If they had reason to suspect that an Islamic terrorist did actually read this book that guy has lots and lots of notice that the feds are on to him. In a way, by running screaming to the press the library is demonstrating why the feds need gag orders on libraries. (My defense here of gag orders should not be misconstrued as a defense of the collection of this data without a court order.) The third level is the interest in the first place. Why get a grand jury involved just because someone scribbled a quote in the margins of a book? Is this a Bin Lauden quote? Googling the quote only returns references to this story. One blogger from the area claims to have seen another quotation in a TV news report about the incident. I wonder if the quotation is entirely different then these two and one which hasn't been made public... Something only someone connected to the base would know... (Turns out the correct quote is "Let history be witness that I am a criminal." Google it.) komo 4 news | Small Town Library Takes On The Feds |
