VERY good article on Tesla |

I really enjoyed this article. Tesla fascinates me. "Tesla always recognised the problem. His natural flair, his love of spectacle and the big idea led the world to see him as a romantic visionary, a poet of science rather than a practical inventor. Whether or not they were all workable, his dreams were grander than the world’s capacity to realise them. Our world today is not that far removed from the one envisaged by Tesla almost a century ago, and perhaps, had the course of history been different, we would now be enjoying further fruits of his genius – and we might still. But for now, Nikola Tesla remains a martyr to weird science and, if such a thing were ever to exist, our patron saint of electricity." VERY good article on Tesla |

For the first time, scientists have experimentally demonstrated that sound pulses can travel at velocities faster than the speed of light, c. William Robertson’s team from Middle Tennessee State University also showed that the group velocity of sound waves can become infinite, and even negative. Dear god I just can't see how he pulled this off but some 17-year old has built a fusion reaction device in his freaking basement. I know exactly how far that would have gotten with my mom, encouraging soul or not. "There is no way you're blowing up the house." He built a WHAT?!?! His parents are mad! |

NewScientist: To heal a wound, turn up the voltage |

Now Josef Penninger of the Austrian Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna and Min Zhao of the University of Aberdeen, UK, have demonstrated that natural electric fields and currents in tissue play a vital role in orchestrating the wound-healing process by attracting repair cells to damaged areas. The researchers have also identified the genes that control the process. "We were originally sceptical, but then we realised it was a real effect and looked for the genes responsible," Penninger says. "It's not homeopathy, it's biophysics."
I wonder if further research could lead to a reconciliation of sorts between eastern and western medicine? [Rad. ] I'm having anodyne therapy right now, which is intense infrared light therapy. I was suprised to see it listed under homeopathic medicine when my doctor prescibed it. The insurance is paying for it - let's just hope it works! Anodyne has also been shown to speed wound heeling. The new standards say high school students must understand major evolutionary concepts. But they also declare that basic Darwinian theory — that all life had a common origin and that natural chemical processes created the building blocks of life — has been challenged in recent years by fossil evidence and molecular biology.
Here's part of the problem. The Kansas standards say this (sort of), but I have yet to see the evidence that they are talking about. From what I have seen, the fossil evidence and molecular biology have done nothing of the sort. DO WHAT? No way. NO FREAKING WAY. You know what I like - the Dalai Lama. He said "If science proved the scriptures are wrong, then they must be changed." How 'bout THAT for an EVOLVED way of THINKING? These people, they make me SICK. I homeschool, but you know what I did today? I taught evolution. All day. We read about it, did an Internet assignment, watched 3 movies on it - all recent - all very scientific. Not one WORD anywhere about any fossil record being in conflict with the theory. Maybe they are talking about the gaps in our knowlege? I don't freaking know where these people come from. Religious literalists just suck. They'd keep us all in the dark ages and surely burn my entire family at the stake if they had their way. Evolution Critics Score Win in Kansas - Yahoo! News |

When Science and Politics collide |

""The standard for disclosure in medical and scientific journals is not your politics. There's no obligation to tell people what your mind-set is ... as long as the data is sound and gathered objectively," said Dr. Alan Leff, a University of Chicago pulmonologist and editor of the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society. Anti-abortion groups say the authors' affiliations are crucially important." "Still, the distrust of science now seen in our culture is distressing." Yep, and that is probable because it is also a sign of fascism. When Science and Politics collide |
