"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

CNN.com - Church says girl's communion not valid - Aug 19, 2004
Topic: Society 9:29 am EDT, Aug 21, 2004

This just ISN'T Christian.....

This article points to one of many of my problems with organized religion. What has the content of the wafer has to do with accepting Jesus as your Savior? Why should the content of the wafer have anything to do with your acceptance into the church?

More importantly, do the church leaders honestly think that Jesus Christ would deny this little girl communion on account of a digestive order?

[ Because, dude, if it's not wheat it won't *actually* transmute into the body of Christ. Only wheat has the power to become the flesh of Jesus. Rice wafers only transmute into Jesus' sweat, or if you're really lucky, a hair or something. And that's just not sufficient. I guess she'll just have to burn in hell.

Stupid religion. Morons seem to attribute a lot of hateful and malicious viewpoints to Jesus. If the word Christian actually meant "follower of the teachings of Jesus" rather than "psychotic, rigid, moralist who conflates any part of the bible necessary to reinforce hate and bigotry" i might still call myself one. -k]

Freedom to Tinker: SHA-1 Break Rumored

] There's a rumor circulating at the Crypto conference,
] which is being held this week in Santa Barbara, that
] somebody is about to announce a partial break of the
] SHA-1 cryptographic hashfunction. If true, this will have
] a big impact, as I'll describe below. And if it's not
] true, it will have helped me trick you into learning a
] little bit about cryptography. So read on....

I would think there would be better use of jails and taxpayer's money..... Looks to me like the justice system is helping the ex husband here turn the screws on his ex wife a bit.

Bush says national sales tax worth considering - Aug. 11, 2004
Topic: Society 2:42 pm EDT, Aug 13, 2004

] Opponents say such a system would not be in the best
] interests of the poor and the middle class who would pay
] the same tax rate as the wealthy even though they have
] less disposable income.
Nothing I'd like to see better than for the IRS to go bye bye.
As opposed to saying "everyone pays the same tax rate" and "if you want a lower tax cut your spending".
