"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri will allow members of the military stationed overseas to return absentee ballots via e-mail, raising concerns from Internet security experts about fraud and ballot secrecy. Though state and federal officials insist safeguards are in place to protect the ballots from tampering, duplication or other forms of fraud, critics warn that e-mail is fundamentally insecure. "E-mail is subject to all kinds of tampering," said Bruce Schneier, co-founder of Mountain View, Calif.-based Counterpane Internet Security Inc. "One of the problems with security is even the appearance of problems is bad." E-Mail Voting Prompts Security Concerns |

I think the thing people should pay attention to with the protests - is not even whether or not it helps Bush or Kerry - but the protests will help us clearly see just how far the US has come in turning into a police state. I don't understand why no one talks about police brutality and prison abuse RIGHT HERE at home. Bike arrests begin after someone throws spagetti at cop |

What were these people really doing? Stealing? Sharing? Building a library? Don't libraries violate copyright by sharing books and CDs with me? I'm so confused about what makes one thing right if the govt does it, but another similiar thing (to me) is wrong if the population at large does it. ODJ cracks dow n on 'internet crime' (piracy) |

Kerry campaign files FEC complaint against TV ads |

I don't give much of a crap what Kerry did in Vietnam, but I don't like to see any veteran that made it through with an honorable discharge go through hell years later about it. The whole thing is disgraceful. This is already one dirty race. ] The John Kerry presidential campaign has filed a ] complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging ] the veterans' group behind an anti-Kerry TV ad was ] illegally coordinating its efforts with the Bush-Cheney ] campaign. [ I don't think this is a good way to go, really. There doesn't seem to be enough hard evidence of collusion or coordination here to warrant it and it makes Kerry look like a whiner, which is a silly epithet, but people are fickle enough to vote based on things like that. Kerry shouldn't be vulnerable on this issue, at least not against Bush, whose records are still incomplete, but running to the FEC like this will make some people think he's trying to unfairly silence his opponents free speech. I think it's gonna do more harm than good. -k] Kerry campaign files FEC complaint against TV ads |
