"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Here's the SB5- the proposed Law on Eminent Domain. Also known as the Georgia Public-Private Infrastructure Act. Expands rights of developers. Although still alive, this bill has been rewritten, mainly because of attacks from Democrats. Its been replaced with SB6, and the eminent domain part has been pretty much gutted. What an ugly site, and it seems like some pretty rabid rhetoric, but I totally do not understand the need for this law... Links to the bill in question...and From the website: "On January 10, 2005, the Speaker of the Georgia House, convinced legislators to pass a rule giving him absolute power to win every vote, in every committee that comes though the State House of Representatives. Not just his party. Him. This power, the power of a dictator, does not exist in any other state in these United States. Not now, not ever. All he needs to control every vote are his Hawks. (Hawks is their term. It is even on their name badges.) The Speakers Hawks are floaters. They may vote in any committee, at any time, on any piece of legislation at the discretion of the speaker. The fact that the Hawks only vote at the discretion on the speaker is where the dictatorship part comes in. And none of them have to listen to all the lengthy discussion and boring debate. ... Republicans kept their promise. A dictatorship is the simplest form of government." Ga. Legislature - Pending Ga. Law - Stop the Hawks Website |

For all you Speedpass users out there... PANIC! No, don't panic actually.. Excerpt: "Faraday shielding offers a short-term, partial remedy. In particular, users may encase their DSTs in aluminum foil or some suitable radio-reflective shielding when not using them. This would defend against active scanning attacks, but not against passive eavesdropping." Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I can't tell, this foil is suffocating. Cheers, -Pk Good read. How good are your ears at discerning music? This site is supposed to help you get better at playing by ear. I do fine with this site/test until I get to the scales. I need to look those terms up. I've played music for 25 years and haven't heard of those terms. At the bottom, the 'perfect pitch' is a very good one to try. Train your ears |

Microsoft: No Patches for Pirated Windows |

In the stupidest security move microsoft has made to date, they've decided that pirated copies of microsoft products should not recieve security patches. What's next, 'How to write a worm', published by Microsoft Press? [ This was inevitable. Its a good idea for their business and a bad idea for computer security on the whole. Its hard to argue that Microsoft has a moral obligation to patch stolen software, but on the other hand this is going to make a bad situation worse. ] -I think this will backfire on them. All we need is a few very fastly spreading worms and the damage to their reputation will increase as linux's user friendliness increases. I don't think its a good move on their part - for a lot of reasons. Microsoft: No Patches for Pirated Windows |
