"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Topic: Miscellaneous 5:57 pm EDT, Jul 19, 2006

Half.com listings will be added to eBay's regular listings. (eBay gets 20% and about half of the shipping on those items)

Core fees are going up - listing fees to more than DOUBLE and the commission on store sells increases from 8% to 10%.

Many sellers are saying that they will close their stores. Others are saying that their prices will have to increase.

DFCS just won't let go in the Jackson Bortz case
Topic: Civil Liberties 3:03 am EDT, Jul 13, 2006

I'm filing this under civil liberties because I believe that DFCS often violates the civil liberties of citizens in its sometimes overzealous intrusion into family affairs, as a few cases brought by the ACLU have shown. Clearly though, they've not brought enough.

In this case, a younger Bortz child died. The autopsy ruled the autopsy as consistent with an accidental death, and the cause of death was accidental.

Yet, Atlanta DFCS removed this older child from the family -totally, as they were burying their baby.

I know this family and they are a very good family. If this nightmare of government intrusion could happen to them - it could happen to ANYONE.

The case has clearly shown me that DFCS officials are not elected or accountable. Money, money, money and power often lie at the heart of their decisions, with a steadfast refusal to admit that they could ever be wrong.

CNN video - Wiccan Soldier - Help Gain National SUPPORT!
Topic: Current Events 2:04 pm EDT, Jul 11, 2006

CNN television covered the Veteran Pentacle Quest today and asks the
public to share their views on this issue.

ON AMERICAN MORNING

This morning, a news story on the quest to get the Pentacle on the VA
emblem of beliefs list for markers for deceased veterans was broadcast
worldwide on CNN television on the program, "American Morning."

This story by CNN National Correspondent Bob Franken began with a scene of
Sgt. Patrick Stewart's coffin being carried by soldiers at his
funeral. The story reported that Sgt. Stewart does not have his
memorial plaque because his Wiccan religion and its emblem, the
Pentacle, are not yet recognized by the US Department of Veterans
Affairs. This news story also included photos of Sgt. Stewart and remarks
by his widow Roberta and Rev. Selena Fox of Circle Sanctuary. Bob
Franken, standing across the street from the VA headquarters,
concluded his coverage by stating several times that the Wiccan
Pentacle has been pending for 9 years.

ON HEADLINE NEWS:

Later in the day, the story aired on CNN Headline News, along with several
emails from viewers, including a supporitve one from Sgt.
Stewart's friend Jeremy who was his roommate when they served in
Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The news anchors asked viewers to share their views about whether or not
the Pentacle should be added to the VA list. Some have already done this,
but more are needed to counter some of the bigoted and
anti-Wiccan emails CNN has gotten.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR VIEWS:

Please speak out in favor of the Pentacle being added to the VA list.
Here's how:

(1) As soon as possible, go to CNN's FEEDBACK

http://www.cnn.com/feedback/cnntv/

(2) Scroll down the page and select AMERICAN MORNING.

Specify news story by its title: WICCAN SOLDIER'S WIDOW FIGHTS VA

(4) Specify date of airing: JULY 10, 2006

(5) Share words of support for the VA adding the Pentacle to its
memorial markers emblems of belief list, and check "positive."

(6) Thank CNN for covering this issue and ask for more
coverage.

SPREAD THE WORD:

Let others know about this latest media coverage and the need to send
comments to CNN about this issue. Post to lists and forward this email to
others you know who might be able to help. Thanks!

I used this site extensively during the last campaign season. It is a very cool site. It is more costly to use than it used to be though. :( It used to be totally free.

I am loving the children's classics. There are a ton of great books here - this is all part of that Gutenberg project - you might have heard of it.

In any event, it is free to the public through August. I think I've already filled my laptop's harddrive up. lol

Homeschoolers have NEW alternative to eBay for Teacher's Editions
Topic: Education 9:58 pm EDT, Jul  8, 2006

EBay, for reasons unknown, decided that teacher's editions, teacher's guides, curriculum guides... all that stuff that homeschoolers desparately need -is now contraband.

Why we don't really know - we suspect pressure from publishers.

Anyway...

There's a big group of eBay sellers that got together and voted on the This Little Piggy Stays Home Website to post teacher's editions, homeschool books, and curriculum on.

I noticed today that word is spreading like wildfire - I got it several times on different listservs.

If you get any of those things, please consider listing here so we can all have access to these at used prices and please pass this info on to anyone that might selll homeschool or regular text books!

College students looking for teacher's editions may be interested as well.

Again with the hacking into govt. computers. Can't they get some spyware or something?

Fallen Soldier Gets a Bronze Star but No Pagan Star
Topic: Current Events 3:42 pm EDT, Jul  5, 2006

I totally agree. (and I think I had this on my memestream too.) This is absolutely **unAmerican** - and even Christians SHOULD fight for this basic right - the right to freedom of religion and the right to be RECOGNIZED for giving your LIFE for this country. UG - This is beyond CRAP.
