"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

In a notice dated Wednesday, the Justice Department listed 196 pending habeas cases, some of which cover groups of detainees. The new Military Commissions Act (MCA), it said, provides that "no court, justice, or judge" can consider those petitions or other actions related to treatment or imprisonment filed by anyone designated as an enemy combatant, now or in the future.
The relevant section from Section 9 of Article 1 of the Constitution: The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it. No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.
It seems to me that the two positions are in direct opposition, on multiple grounds, and when that is the case, the Constitution wins. Nice try, but this one don't fly Il Dupe. It's called "Violating the Oath of Office," and it means, "move back to Crawford you piece of crap." Court Told It Lacks Power in Detainee Cases - washingtonpost.com |

National Geographic often shows dual standards in the way it portrays women from different cultures. While they would never print a full-page picture of a topless 19 year-old Californian girl, they have no problems doing to with a native African woman. This practice has been called colonial and is, in a way, also censorship – although not made with black ink.
Pictures of western magazines censored by the Iranian government. I wonder how many copies of these come into the country and how many people they employ blacking out flesh? j|turn » More pictures of Iranian Censorship |

State investigators have linked a Republican campaign to letters sent to thousands of Orange County Hispanics warning them they could go to jail or be deported if they vote next month, a spokesman for the attorney general said.
How to win? Make other people too afraid to vote. The word is "disenfranchisement" and it means you've violated another person's civil rights. Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not drop the soap. AG: Voter warning linked to GOP campaign - Yahoo! News |

HENDERSON, Kentucky (AP) -- Police found a social worker slain in a western Kentucky home and issued an Amber Alert for the 10-month-old boy the woman had taken to the house for a visit with his mother, authorities said Tuesday. The child's mother, Renee Terrell, 33, of Henderson, did not have custody of her developmentally disabled son, police said. She and her boyfriend, Christopher Wayne Luttrell, 23, were both missing Tuesday and were believed to have the child. ..... "It's a dangerous job anytime you're taking someone's child away from their parents," Duncan said. "You know how protective parents can be." The article never mentions why it was neccessary for CPS to take the child in the first place. I'd think that should be a big part of the artile. I am suprised more social workers aren't killed. From what I've observed, I don't believe the legal system is fair or constitutional when it comes to CPS; it often leaves parents feeling backed into a corner and desparate. This is a Rev. Younger speaking to a Christian congregation about Paganism. It is rather lengthy (it is a sermon)LOL, however...he is teaching his congregation the truth about Paganism. I think this is one of the best sermons I have ever heard! He is a Universalist minister. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2607509120382530850 Same video, just different link http://www.care2.com/news/member/362617688/194989 (more extensive commentary.) "WASHINGTON - Good news for aging hippies: smoking pot may stave off Alzheimer’s disease. New research shows that the active ingredient in marijuana may prevent the progression of the disease by preserving levels of an important neurotransmitter that allows the brain to function. Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in California found that marijuana’s active ingredient, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, can prevent the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from breaking down more effectively than commercially marketed drugs."
