I'm a moderate to liberal Democrat. Conservative Republicans are often a mystery to me.

CNN.com - Rice: Iran 'terror's central bank' - Mar 15, 2006
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:00 pm EST, Mar 16, 2006

Rice called Iran a "troublesome state" and the "central banker of terrorism," though she didn't elaborate on that.

I know Iran is not innocent, but is it really a good idea to continue the name calling and blaming terrorism on them? I can't say I understand this approach.

Tape: Bush, Chertoff Warned Before Katrina - Yahoo! News
Topic: Current Events 2:00 am EST, Mar  2, 2006

The footage — along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press — show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.

The smoking gun... if this isn't the final straw for the Republican party, I'm afraid to ask what more it will take.

MiamiHerald.com | 02/21/2006 | Carter backs Bush's stand on seaport-operations deal
Topic: Current Events 1:36 am EST, Feb 22, 2006

President Bush is taking a battering from fellow Republicans, even the governors of New York and Maryland, over the administration's support for a decision that gives an Arab company control of some commercial operations at six major seaports -- including Miami-Dade's.But he got a boost Monday from an unlikely source, frequent critic and former president Jimmy Carter, who downplayed fears that the deal poses a risk.

I have to admit, I'm surprised.

Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday that an executive order gives him the authority to declassify secret documents, but he would not say whether he authorized an indicted former aide to release classified information.

The Democratic Party
Topic: Current Events 9:41 am EST, Feb 18, 2006

Recently, Republicans have been implying that an indictment for perjury is simply a "technicality." But they didn't always feel that way.

Oklahoma State Cowboys, NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBS SportsLine.com
Topic: Sports 3:43 pm EST, Feb 13, 2006

Eddie Sutton was cited with driving under the influence after he was injured in a car accident, and the Oklahoma State basketball coach will take a medical leave for the rest of the season.

I'm a big fan of college hoops and an OSU Cowboys fan, so this news is rather sad. I really hate to see Eddie go out like that, and I hope that he gets healthy and takes care of himself.

FCC now sees a la carte pay TV cutting prices - Yahoo! News
Topic: Technology 2:12 am EST, Feb 10, 2006

The cable industry has long opposed a la carte service arguing it would cost consumers more, squeeze out niche channels that attract casual viewers and upset advertising revenue for operators.

The new report found in some scenarios for a la carte that monthly prices could fall 3 percent to 13 percent, instead of rising 14 percent to 30 percent as earlier forecast.

For years I have been asking "Why do I have to pay for all of these channels I don't watch, just to get the channels I want?" The cable companies have insisted it would cost too much (cost them money or loss of profit) but this study seems to show that is nonsense.

White House Knew of Levee's Failure on Night of Storm - New York Times
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:55 am EST, Feb 10, 2006

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Bush administration officials said they had been caught by surprise when they were told on Tuesday, Aug. 30, that a levee had broken, allowing floodwaters to engulf New Orleans.

But Congressional investigators have now learned that an eyewitness account of the flooding from a federal emergency official reached the Homeland Security Department's headquarters starting at 9:27 p.m. the day before, and the White House itself at midnight.

The article speaks for itself. I have nothing to add.
