"Now a series of legal actions has brought the debate into the labs, homes and offices of millions of programmers, prompting some of them to emerge from their cubicles and take action. This time, as they say, it's personal. " Programmers enroll in political training - Tech News - CNET.com |

"Such laws only make sense if you have no idea what you are talking about." Common sense commentary about video piracy. Not news to any of you, but maybe a breath of fresh air if you are sick of hearing from Valenti and Rosen, or you want a quality reference for discussions. "At its best, the Internet can educate more people faster than any media tool we've ever had. At its worst, it can make people dumber faster than any media tool we've ever had. The lie that 4,000 Jews were warned not to go into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 was spread entirely over the Internet and is now thoroughly believed in the Muslim world. Because the Internet has an aura of "technology" surrounding it, the uneducated believe information from it even more. They don't realize that the Internet, at its ugliest, is just an open sewer: an electronic conduit for untreated, unfiltered information." Absolutely mandatory read for those trying to understand the impact of the Internet on modern society. Global Village Idiocy |

Chart showing the amount of $$ to fix alot of the global problems. It's worth noting that if it is accurate then U.S. military expenditures are half of the total military expenditures. What would happen if you chopped that in two and use one half to deal with the job fallout from lost military jobs and the other half to directly address some of these issues? Think about it. Business as usual. The U.S. is not to be held to account for its actions while it has free reign to haul in whomever it likes and try them in its own secret military courts. Perhaps a harsh way of putting it, but it rings true. If the U.S. conducts itself as righteously as it claims what is the problem with an international criminal court. Yahoo!
