SBC has also asked the California PUC to allow it to enter the state's $17 billion long distance market. To get approval, SBC has to prove that SBC's control over California's telephone facilities properly supports competition among Internet service providers, including independent ISPs. CISPA's original complaint claims that SBC has failed to provide fair and non-discriminatory access to the phone networks.

Man, I am still trying to understand SOAP, but it is almost definitely a super subversive protocol from a networking perspective. I understand why it exists, but the more people try to alleviate problems on the basis of the application layer and don't try to address it further down the more they are creating additional security issues. As usual, security is not on the list of important issues. . . developerWorks: Web services | Java technology : Apache SOAP type mapping, Part 1: Exploring Apache's serialization APIs |

Impressive and very cool application of biotech. Which sometimes appears somewhat creepy to me; however, this kind of application is why we should continue (carefully) to continue this important research. New Scientist |

This is why the country is in a funk now. The good people have to put up with this kind of crap. I figured the CISSP was a joke and now it's clear. Why doesn't the tech community have real certifications that are more like the way lawyers and other professionals are handled? SecurityFocus home columnists: A Certified Waste of Time |

Metromedia Fiber Network, a major provider of optical fiber communications networks in and around large cities, replaced its top executives yesterday and said that it had violated several loan agreements, moving to the brink of bankruptcy. The company missed an $8.1 million interest payment Friday on $231 million in notes issued to Nortel Networks. The missed payment automatically put it into default not just on the Nortel notes but on more than $440 million in notes and other loans from major creditors and banks. As of the end of February, the company had $3.3 billion in total debt and less than $40 million in cash. ... Metromedia Fiber's collapse would be one of the largest yet in the telecommunications sector. The company ... claims to be the industry's leading supplier of high-speed voice and data networks to urban customers. Metromedia Fiber Slides Toward a Bankruptcy Filing |

"There are so many dot-com companies that spent millions upon millions of dollars that tried to get a fraction of the traffic I'm getting and a fraction of the revenue that I'm getting. They have billboards in Times Square, they have 50 employees, they have a whole team of marketing and sales people. All this and they don't do anything. And that's pathetic and sad.
