USS Liberty: Did Israel commit one war crime to hide another?
Topic: History 8:30 pm EST, Nov 21, 2002

Washington Report readers know the story well. In 1967 on the fourth day of the Six Day War, the armed forces of Israel attacked the American intelligence ship USS Liberty for 90 minutes in international waters in broad daylight following several hours of close, low-level reconnaissance. Thirty-four men died, 171 were hurt, and the ship was so badly damaged that it had to be scrapped.

When the Liberty was attacked, Captain Joseph Tully in the aircraft
carrier USS Saratoga received the ship's call for help and immediately sent jet aircraft to her assistance. Tully's jets were recalled almost immediately by orders from Washington. As a result, American jet fighter support was withheld for more than 90 minutes. By then the damage was done and 34 men were dead or dying.

Had those aircraft been sent, they would probably have arrived before the torpedo boats started their part of the attack. At least 25 lives could have been saved.

We survivors have tried for 29 years to learn why we were denied the
immediate air support that we were promised in case of trouble. There are no answers. The Navy still will not even admit that help was not sent, even though one of the aircraft carrier commanders has offered to testify that he was forbidden to help us.

The United States military continues to support its best enemies.

US promises Israel $2.16 bln military aid in 2004
Topic: Current Events 8:26 pm EST, Nov 21, 2002

WASHINGTON, Nov 21 (Reuters) - The Bush administration has promised Israel $2.16 billion in military assistance in 2004, a slight increase over the $2.1 billion it has asked Congress to provide in 2003, the State Department said on Thursday.

"The administration fully appreciates the dangers Israel faces from proliferation and conventional arms build-up in the region, as well as acknowledges the substantial risks Israel has taken to pursue peace," a State Department statement said.

This is worth re-recommending simply because it's so unbelievable. The other humorous piece to this story is that the conservative right generally attacks the mainstream media for it's "liberal" bias.

Not that I was ever horribly impressed by Clinton, but he sure looks good after a couple years of Dubya.

I remember when this first came out. They sure have done a lot of work on it. It's very slick looking. I'm glad it looks like they are going to make it. It's a sweet product. It's probably expensive now. Back in the day it was $300.

Slashdot | Black Ops of TCP/IP: Paketto Keiretsu 1.0 Release
Topic: Miscellaneous 10:09 pm EST, Nov 18, 2002

Just reference for me. This is cool shit.

Wow. Read this:

Minewt is a minimal "testbed" implementation of a stateful address translation gateway, rendered so entirely in userspace that not even the hardware addresses of the gateway correspond to what the kernel is operating against. Minewt implements what is common referred to as NAT, as well as a Doxpara-developed technique known as MAT. MAT, or MAC Address Translation, allows several backend hosts to share the same IP address, by dropping the static ARP cache and merging Layer 2 information into the NAT state table. Minewt's ability to manipulate MAC addresses also allows it to demonstrate Guerilla Multicast, which allows multiple hosts on the same subnet to receive a unicasted TCP/UDP datastream from the outside world. Minewt is not a firewall, and should not be treated as such.

Is this a potential mechanism for maintaining state on a couple of VRRP'ed OpenBSD pf firewalls???

I know it's not what it's intended for, but you might be able to leverage his MAT capability in such a way.

More:

Paratrace traces the path between a client and a server, much like "traceroute", but with a major twist: Rather than iterate the TTLs of UDP, ICMP, or even TCP SYN packets, paratrace attaches itself to an existing, stateful- firewall-approved TCP flow, statelessly releasing as many TCP Keepalive messages as the software estimates the remote host is hop-distant.

How slick is that???
