Interesting article/interview with Edward Said. One of the more striking pieces that is particularly relevant to my current personal experiences: "What is quite worrisome is the absence of analysis and reflection. Take the word 'terrorism.' It has become synonymous now with anti-Americanism, which, in turn, has become synonymous with being critical of the United States, which, in turn, has become synonymous with being unpatriotic. That's an unacceptable series of equations. The definition of terrorism has to be more precise, so that we are able to discriminate between, for example, what it is that the Palestinians are doing to fight the Israeli military occupation and terrorism of the sort that resulted in the World Trade Center bombing. Interesting considering the current circumstances. From Cyantist's original entry: i was just thinking about all this anthrax hysteria and suddenly i remembered the dude that had not only the plague, but anthrax in his trunk as well. search on google for larry wayne harris. we didn't freak out when the white supremacist parties had their hands on it. wait, killing black people isn't terrorism. A peace activist justifies strikes on Terrorist bases. Interesting article that I'm still absorbing, but probably the closest aligned with my own particular beliefs. In particular, following some of this advise would bring U.S. foreign policy practice towards human beings in-line with the way the U.S. gov treats human beings with our boundaries. More of the "good" stuff. A bill that will basically allow the government a free hand against non-profit they decide is subversive. This will wind up being terribly abused before it's all over. Non-Profits can have their assets siezed without proof! |
