] To some extent, journalists have felt obliged to tone ] down criticisms because of the sense of shared national ] purpose after September 11. Even that cannot explain how ] the papers cravenly ignored the Trent Lott story. Lott, ] the veteran senator from Mississippi, made his pro- ] segregation statement on a Thursday, in full earshot of ] the Washington press corps. The Times and Post both ] failed to mention it. Indeed, it was almost totally ] ignored until the following Tuesday, kept alive until ] then only by a handful of bloggers. If there is a ] Watergate scandal lurking in this administration, it is ] unlikely to be Woodward or his colleagues who will tell ] us about it. If it emerges, it will probably come out on ] the web. That is a devastating indictment of the state of ] American newspapers. MediaGuardian.co.uk | Media | Bushwhacked |

RIAA, Technology Industry deal looking dirty... |

] Lobbyists for some of the nation's largest technology ] companies will argue under the new agreement against ] efforts in Congress to amend U.S. laws to broaden the ] rights of consumers, such as explicitly permitting ] viewers to make backup copies of DVDs for personal use or ] copy songs onto handheld listening devices. More information is starting to leak out about this mornings deal between the RIAA and the tech industry. According to the AP, the RIAA agrees to drop support for the (unworkable and extremely unpopular) Fritz Chip legislation, and in exchange the technology industry agrees to lobby AGAINST consumer fair use rights. I certaily don't wish to take the AP's analysis as the word of god, but they are spinning this as a positive compromise. It sounds to me like the RIAA got a hell of a lot more then they gave. Find your neighbor's blog, perhaps, or the web ] page of the restaurants near you." This site is slashdoted to hell, but I think that ultimately this sort of thing will be extremely important. You will want to be able to attach a blog entry to a geographic location, and the reputation system will find blog entries of interest to you as you walk around town... This will allow you to share information about businesses in the area, history, etc... GeoURL ICBM Address Server |

] Jesus was almost certainly a cannabis user and an early ] proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, ] according to a study of scriptural texts published this ] month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples ] used the drug to carry out miraculous healings. ] Quoting the New Testament, Mr Bennett argues that Jesus ] anointed his disciples with the oil and encouraged them ] to do the same with other followers. This could have been ] responsible for healing eye and skin diseases referred to ] in the Gospels. ] "If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ] ancient anointing oil... and receiving this oil is what ] made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then ] persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered ] anti-Christ," Mr Bennett concludes.
