] A REPORT declassified by the United Nations yesterday ] contained a hidden bombshell with the revelation that ] inspectors have recently discovered an undeclared Iraqi ] drone with a wingspan of 7.45m, suggesting an illegal ] range that could threaten Iraq's neighbours with ] chemical and biological weapons. ] US officials were outraged that Hans Blix, the chief ] UN weapons inspector, did not inform the Security ] Council about the drone, or remotely piloted vehicle, ] in his oral presentation to Foreign Ministers and tried ] to bury it in a 173-page single-spaced report ] distributed later in the day. The omission raised ] serious questions about Dr Blixs objectivity. UK Times - Iraqi drone 'could drop chemicals on troops' |

] The present administration's embrace of the religious ] right also leads, by a bizarre route, to the further ] strengthening of the Israel lobby. Unbelievably, ] born-again doctrine insists that Israel must be blindly ] supported, not because it is the only semi-democracy in ] that crescent, but because it is due to host the second ] coming. Armageddon is scheduled to take place near the ] hill of Megiddo (where, in recent months; an Israeli bus ] was suicide-bombed by another kind of believer). The ] Rapture, the Tribulation, the Binding of the Antichrist: ] it isn't altogether clear how much of this rubbish Bush ] swallows (though Reagan swallowed it whole). VS Naipaul ] has described the religious impulse as the inability "to ] contemplate man as man", responsible to himself and ] uncosseted by a higher power. We may consider this a ] weakness; Bush, dangerously, considers it a strength. Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Martin Amis: The palace of the end |

] A man was charged with trespassing in a mall after he ] refused to take off a T-shirt that said "Peace on Earth" ] and "Give peace a chance." ] ] Mall security approached Stephen Downs, 61, and his ] 31-year-old son, Roger, on Monday night after they were ] spotted wearing the T-shirts at Crossgates Mall in a ] suburb of Albany, the men said. This is just WRONG. Unless this article (and the one on CNN) are missing something, like the guy became irate and threatened security guards or something like that, this is way over the line. You can't wear a tee shirt in the mall that advocates peace? This mall is going to feel some serious heat. Man Arrested for Wearing Peace T-Shirt |

The policies we are now asked to advance are incompatible not only with American values but also with American interests. Our fervent pursuit of war with Iraq is driving us to squander the international legitimacy that has been America?s most potent weapon of both offense and defense since the days of Woodrow Wilson. We have begun to dismantle the largest and most effective web of international relationships the world has ever known. Our current course will bring instability and danger, not security. The resignation letter from John Brady Kiesling to Colin Powell. Requires registration with the NY Times. U.S. Diplomat's Letter of Resignation - nytimes.com |
