The 2005 Year in Graphs is being held up due to my broken laptop. We have never released it on time, so this should not shock anyone. This year I get to blame it on Apple.. Which is so much better than just saying "my code is broken" or "this database is insane", which is usually (truthfully) the case. I should be back to those default explanations in about a week, depending on how fast Apple support repairs my machine. At worst, when I'm no longer traveling I'll be able to get it done on my backup machine. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. It was an interesting year. Interesting in the "may you live in interesting times" kinda way. I hope that comes through in the end result. 2005 was a crappy year. I am very happy that it is now 2006. The first half of the uh-oh's is over. Is this the point where the decade starts to turn around? I know things don't necessarly work that way, but hope and delusion are closely related. |

Thanksgiving night my girlfriend's appartment was broken into. Only two things were stolen: My Powerbook and iPod My most recent backup was 3 weeks ago. This means I have lost all of the preperation work for a number of papers I have due. I have also lost a fair amount of Industrial Memetics related materials that had been worked on recently. Also toast is my schedule and all the notes I use to keep track of things. At this point, it's not exactly clear how much of this $3k+ loss will be covered by insurance. Hopefully, all of it will be. My Powerbook was my only workstation, so the next week or so is going to be pretty tough. I have a fair amount of work to make up. Don't expect much posting from me. I also have no tunes. :( |

Decius and I will be speaking at the Hacking 101, 201, and 301 panels this weekend at DragonCon. I look forward to seeing a number of friends and MemeStreams users. I expect my blogging to be light or non-existant until my return. Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! Here is to hoping we don't have any significant issues with the gas shortages... |

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.
Steve Jobs is a real amazing character. He is someone I'd love to meet. 'You've got to find what you love,' Jobs says |

If anyone happens to know anywhere that has reasonably priced (read as: cheaper then dirt) mail forwarding services, please let me know. Update: Sorry this originally was posted multiple times. My connection was flaking at the time. |

I have bestowed this award upon you for your ability to craft targeted and strategic posts to piss off the largest amount of people possible. I also award you for your own sexual insecurities that allow you to imply that homosexuals are not "actual human beings." Kudos to you! Oh, and please do not neglect to visit the url below to receive this prestigious award. Thank you for your time...and attention. And because of your unique disregard for human life and everything that pertains, we will stray from the normal policy of not feeding the trolls. Eat up.
Let it be noted that Vile has generated more complaints then any other user in MemeStreams history. World's Greatest Poster Award - given to Vile |

I can say with somewhat certainty that there is nothing odd in the middle of Little Egg Harbor, the "Black Hole" in Jersey's coverage. The water there is pretty shallow, so its unlikely there was something there that was blacked out, like a parked fleet. I'm not nearly as familiar with the Little Egg Harbor area as I am with the Barnegat Bay/Inlet area slightly to the north, where I'm from. In that last link, you might notice the Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant, which I'm fond of making jokes about. There are a number of interesting things in the immediate vicinity of that Black Hole though.. If from that point, you start going up to the north-west, you will see where most of the US cranberry supply comes from (more). All around that area are parts of Fort Dix and numerous decommissioned bases.. The only stuff that really looks interesting from orbit is the McGuire AFB stuff. As I'm fond of saying, the entire state might as well be a military base. The best example being the Earle Naval Weapons Station. Check out these Google Maps's links of it: The pier - Landing, offices, and America's most secure baseball field - Lots of parking for a big area of nothing with a bunch of tunnels... - And follow down that secret highway/rail corridor to the main magazine - If you zoom out a decent amount, you will surely notice that the overall Earle complex dominates the area. Zoom out farther, and you notice that the stuff I linked here dominates the state. Google Maps is endless fun. RE: Google Sightseeing - Post Archive - Black Holes |
