] recommendations also allow one person to establish a ] trusted, virtual identity in an anonymous way. For ] example, consider alice, an anonymous k2b channel owner. ] After starting one channel and gaining the trust of her ] subscribers (who learned about her channel from the ] prebroadcast catcher or from her anonymous website), ] alice can start new channels and recommend them to her ] subscribers. Perhaps these new channels will be more ] specific than her original channel (like alice_fiction, ] alice_poetry, and alice_paintings), so subscribers can ] pick channels that closely match their interests. In her ] recommendation comments, alice can attest to the fact ] that she owns these new channels. If the subscribers ] trust alice, they can trust that she owns these new ] channels too. If alice has sent high-quality content on ] her original channel, she is likely to send content of ] equal quality on her new channels. ] over time, channel owners with a solid reputations will ] learn to treat recommendations seriously, since those ] who take recommendations lightly will not have solid ] reputations. ! konspire2b: a revolution in mass-scale content distribution |

] Curtis said a new video titled Terrible Mr. G is the ] latest "meme" rapidly gaining in popularity. Likely shot ] without the knowledge of the subject, the video documents ] the frustration of playing a combat computer game like ] Counter-Strike. ] ] The soundtrack -- a series of groans, foul language and ] invective -- also has been dubbed to techno. ] ] "There's this guy swearing like a sailor," Curtis said. ] "It's pretty darn funny." Update on the "Terrible Mr. G" meme. I mentioned earlier (http://www.memestreams.net/users/rattle/blogid2944884) that a meme on flynn23's blog (http://www.memestreams.net/users/flynn23/blogid2549710) was getting a lot of hits from Google. This Wired article appears to be what is stired up all the interest. At the time off this posting, it had been hit at least 1400 times due to its placement on Google. Thanks to William Reynolds for pointing this out. Wired News: Blog Bucks Aid Laughingstock Kid |

] Pound for pound, who's the biggest, richest media mogul ] on the Web? Terry Semel? Nope. Sumner Redstone? Not ] exactly. Try Matt Drudge. Years after his big "scoop" -- ] leaking that Newsweek was sitting on a story about the ] tryst between President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky -- ] Drudge's website is bigger than ever. Run on a ] shoestring, the Drudge Report, a plain-Jane page of news ] links and occasional scoops, clears, by our ] back-of-the-envelope estimate, a cool $800,000 a year. ] ] While other news sites make money, they don't mint it ] Drudge-style. New York Times Digital scored an operating ] profit of $8.3 million last year. But it has 237 ] full-time employees, meaning that each worker accounts ] for about $35,000 in profit. (And that doesn't take into ] consideration the fact that the site's reports are ] actually generated by the newspaper staff, a cost ] allocated to the paper side only.) By any calculus, ] Drudge's site might be the most efficiently run on the ] Web; it makes the Times site look bloated. Drudge's is a ] two-person operation (although he never mentions his ] right-hand man); that means it makes $400,000 per ] employee. And he never has to leave the comfort of his ] Miami condo. ] Fox News had its own response to the demonstrators. The ] news ticker rimming Fox's headquarters on Sixth Avenue ] wasn't carrying war updates as the protest began. ] Instead, it poked fun at the demonstrators, chiding them. ] ] "War protester auditions here today ... thanks for ] coming!" read one message. "Who won your right to show up ] here today?" another questioned. "Protesters or ] soldiers?" ] ] Said a third: "How do you keep a war protester in ] suspense? Ignore them." ] ] Still another read: "Attention protesters: the Michael ] Moore Fan Club meets Thursday at a phone booth at Sixth ] Avenue and 50th Street" - a reference to the film maker ] who denounced the war while accepting an Oscar on Sunday ] night for his documentary "Bowling for Columbine." ] ] The protesters said Fox's sentiments only proved their ] point: that media coverage, in particular among the ] television networks, is so biased as to be unbelievable. ] Iraq needs a mobile-phone service. According to the ] U.N.'s International Telecommunication Union's 2001 ] survey, Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan were the last ] three major countries without a major mobile ] infrastructure. ] ] The current reconstruction plan involves using U.S. funds ] to install a European-based wireless technology known as ] GSM (define) for a new Iraqi cell phone system. Issa's ] bill (HR 1441) would give preference to American ] companies, including QUALCOMM. ] ] "If European GSM technology is deployed in Iraq, much of ] the equipment used to build the cell phone system would ] be manufactured in France, Germany, and elsewhere in ] western and northern Europe. Furthermore, royalties paid ] on the technology would flow to French and European ] sources, not U.S. patent holders," Issa said in his ] letter to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and USAID ] Administrator, Ambassador Wendy Chamberlain. US business interests over plain common sense, and what is best for the Iraqi people... every surrounding nation uses GSM, but Iraq should be CDMA, because American companies will get the loot. Great thinking. Curious.. Do they drive on the left or right side of the road in Iraq? CDMA Pushed on Postwar Iraq |
