i read the latest national geographic and the answer seems to be because it faltered because of the buildup of fluid in it's lungs... fell because it was bleeding to death from a internal hemhorage (sic)...and finally was run over by a mack truck symbolizing the general lack of concern on the part of those who stand to lose dollars and nuyenin the cleanup process.
