] Reenie's head chip woke her by steadily increasing ] the perceived volume of a song by a British comedy ] troupe. Lots of trippy dreams last night. She ] couldn't remember them all this morning, but she was ] sure they were cool. She rolled out of bed and prepared ] for her "Commute" to the adjoining room. Reenie ] loved her job, well, as much as she could love any job. ] She got to work from home as much as she liked. If you liked "Ownz0red" by Cory Doctorow, which many of you did, you will definitely like this quick little 10 minute read. Futurismic: Fiction |

] Google Scholar enables you to search specifically for ] scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, ] theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports ] from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to ] find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, ] professional societies, preprint repositories and ] universities, as well as scholarly articles available ] across the web. So far, I am pretty impressed. I do literature searches pretty much daily in my job, so more sites like this make my life much easier. I spend most of my time at Pubmed, but it is interesting to see what google catches that pubmed doesn't. I will definitly be keeping my eye on this. - Nano Google Scholar |

UM, yeah, this is an autonomous robot that goes around cracking wifi passwords. Once it cracks a password it triangulates the person who is transmitting it, drives up to you, and shows you your password on a big LCD screen. Promptly you begin to kick it. Thats why these guys need to talk to the people at battlebots. ToorCon Pics: Hackerbot |

] DIEBOLD ALERT ] ] All files yanked by webhost at request of Diebold, ] Inc. ] A copy of the email is below. I received this 28 hours ] after the now-vanished files went live. ] While I am not a legal professional in any way, I firmly ] believe that these files, while copyrighted, carry ] credible evidence of illegal vote-accessing activity ] and thus are not covered under the DCMA due to the "dirty ] hands" defense, which disallows an entity seeking ] damages in cases involving illegal activities ] connected to that which is being protected. Cafe Press now sells books. Fairly cheap too when you consider how much kinkos charges for this. You no longer need a book publisher as long as you can market yourself. Publish books for Free |

] Blackboard said the settlement shows its systems are ] secure but the whole case is better understood as a ] successful attempt to protect the firm's reputation ] against the possibly exaggerated claims of a pair of ] student hacker/crackers The register got caught up in the spin as well. Since when is using the law an appropriate way to silence critics? Thats the very definition of censorship. Can we accept that this is really the final word on the story, given that its coming from blackboard, and that Acidus and Virgil are injoined from responding? Is Blackboard's technology secure? We may never know. What we do know is that Blackboard has effectively silenced their critics, with extreme prejudice. My lawyer is bigger then your lawyer should not trump the first amendment. In this case it has. These student settled because they did not have the means to defend themselves. Acidus and Virgil owe $20,000 in (clears throat) "legal fees." They are college students. They can't really afford this and they need help. If you would like to contribute, you can paypal the following email address: gte344p@prism.gatech.edu The Register - Blackboard press release |
