There goes therapuetic cloning. As I have said before, in my eyes, therapuetic cloning is different than bringing a human clone to term. Thanks to Severino Antinori, therapuetic cloning will most likely be banned in the US. New Scientist- Bush to back ban on all human cloning |

New Scientist- Cloning pregnancy claim prompts outrage |

Here is something scary to brighten your day. I am totally opposed to Human Reproductive Cloning..I just don't see a need or an application for this. It disgusts me really. I am, however, a proponent for theraputic cloning, and often times, it gets lumped with this, but theraputic cloning is much different. The only question that is left is.....who's clone is she carrying?!?!?!?! New Scientist- Cloning pregnancy claim prompts outrage |

Impressive and very cool application of biotech. Which sometimes appears somewhat creepy to me; however, this kind of application is why we should continue (carefully) to continue this important research. New Scientist |

A Dim View of a `Posthuman Future' |

If the human mind and body are shaped by a bunch of genes, as the decoding of the human genome seems to underscore, then biotechnologists will one day be able to change both and perhaps, in seeking to refine the imperfect human clay, will alter human nature. That prospect should be worrying a lot more people, in the view of the political theorist Francis Fukuyama, because history's central question -- that of what kind of society best suits human needs -- has been settled only if human nature remains as it is ... The article talks alot about biotechnology and changing genes to enhance things such as Intellegence and the like, and that is what every person who is against biotech talks about. The truth is, although that has been brought up as a possible future event, the focus of gene manipulation in humans right now is gene therapy. I am biased in the fact that I am pro-biotechnology, but I think curing disease from the genomic level is the next logical progession of medicine. A Dim View of a `Posthuman Future' |

I think it will be neat to see what comes of this. I think that people who are against GM crops use slightly slippery slope arguments.....so it will be interesting to see what actually happens when GM crops are planted for a normal cause instead of in a research environment New Scientist - India gives go-ahead to GM crops |

Although slightly creepy, this is a good idea. Not only can it be used for reasons that the article states, as well, sometimes when doing genetic testing in order to diagnose a disease, lots of samples are needed. If the person has already passed away, then that sample cannot be tested unless there is tissue that has been saved or something. Final Resting Place for Your DNA |

Genome Figure Goes Philanthropic |

"The man who became famous for wanting to commercialize the human genome may surprise people with his latest venture: He's going nonprofit." " "Philanthropy is the purest form of egocentrism," said Dr. Jonathan Seely, a principal at Iatrix Systems in Menlo Park, California." Ironically, I found this article only a few moments after the other meme about Celera (see below). Just when you think things are getting predictable..... This looks fairly admirable...but Venter sketches me out, so I am not so sure that this "non-profit, I am the nice guy now" move is what it seems Genome Figure Goes Philanthropic |
