Nashville owner Craig Leipold has sent a letter to the NHL advising it to stop considering Balsillie as a potential candidate for ownership until the sides can reach a final sale agreement. "We did send the NHL a letter today requesting that it not do any further due diligence on Jim Balsillie's offer for the Nashville Predators until we reach a binding agreement," Leipold said in a statement on Friday. "If Jim is interested in reaching a binding agreement, we are prepared to move forward." A league source also told CP that Leipold asked the NHL to discontinue Balsillie's application because he was caught off-guard by the Canadian billionaire's intention to relocate the franchise to Hamilton.

In the end, the massive fire would burn a total of 903 square miles. Its footprint, up to 30 miles wide and 58 miles long, covers an area 2.8 times larger than New York City. The total cost is estimated at more than $54 million since the fires began, most of it covered under federal emergency grants.

The authors of the study polled 2,210 infertility patients across the country, asking what they intended to do with extra embryos currently in cryogenic storage. Previous estimates were that only around 3 percent would choose to donate extra embryos to research, but to the authors' surprise, 60 percent said they would donate if that option were available. By contrast, only 22 percent of the patients said they were willing to donate the embryos to other couples.
This is an interesting piece of information. Of course, with Bush in office, it really does no good. I am consistently disappointed in what appears to be a lack of critical thinking when Bush pulls out the veto pen. The veto of the most recent stem cell bill seems to actually go against his views in my opinion. His big stance is not destroying human life for research. The bill he just vetoed was propositioning for the use of the extra embryos created for IVF (in vitro fertilization)in stem cell research. This is a process that generates more embryos than a couple will ever need. Thus, the excess embryos go into cryogenic storage *indefinitely*. So Bush had two options...allow the embryos to be kept in storage (where they will most likely never see the light of day), or allow these embryos to be used for research that has the potential to ease the suffering of thousands of people. And he chose to keep them in storage....which in my opinion is a waste of potential human life. Chances are, these embryos will never be brought to full term...but their life could be dedicated to helping others with devastating diseases. Bah...thats frustrating. Check out the stats: * Americans wasted more than 570 million vacation days in 2006(1) * Unlike 96 other countries, the U.S. has no law governing vacations * U.S. workers receive an average of 14 vacation days but only use 10 a year(1) * By comparison, French workers receive 39 vacation days, and Germans get 27(1) * Americans have increasingly worked more days a year since World War II(2) * A nine-year university study recently found that not taking vacation can increase the chance of heart attack or coronary disease.(3) * In 2006, members of the U.S. Congress clocked 104 days in session – which means they worked exactly two days a week.(4) We want to stop this trend and begin to reverse it. So we're aiming high and going for a Five Day Weekend.
