GOP Resolution Blasts Times For Leaks, Measure To Condemn Newspaper For Disclosing Intelligence Program - CBS News |

King urged the Justice Department to "begin an investigation and prosecution of The New York Times," and Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, asked the administration to make an assessment of damage caused by the stories.
I'm confused. How is the re-disclosure of this (it was orginally cited in a UN report in 2002) threaten anything? The only NEW thing that has come out is that it looks like Congress wasn't notified that they were doing so, and Congress may not even need to be notified? Furthermore, why are they not calling for the heads of the LA Times and the Wall Street Journal? The bottom line is, this is bullshit. If they were honest about this, they'd be going after everyone, instead they're screaming "New York Times! New York Times!" like Chicken Little. The information has been out there and publically recommended by the UN for three and a half years. The only "threat" this news report was to national security was to George and Dick's continued tenure. The actual threat is less than zero. Now here's a better question and it's why are they REALLY so pissed off? Since the information is of little/zero use in going after terrorists, what were they actually doing with the information? Would it have anything to do with the phone records? How about all the data they have from ChoicePoint? How about the NSA rooms that appear to be designed to monitor the whole internet? OLBERMANN: Wrong answer. When you are that wrong, when you are defending Nazi war criminals and pinning their crimes on Americans and you get caught doing so twice, you‘re supposed to say I‘m sorry, I was wrong, and then you‘re supposed to shut up for a long time. Instead, FOX washed its transcript of O‘Reilly‘s remarks Tuesday. Its Web site claims O‘Reilly said in Normandy, when, as you heard, in fact, he said in Malmedy. The rewriting of past reporting worthy of George Orwell has now carried over into such online transcription services as Burell‘s and Factiva. Whatever did or did not happen later in supposed or actual retribution, the victims at Malmedy were Americans, gunned down while surrendering by Nazis in 1944 and again Tuesday night and Wednesday night by a false patriot who would rather be loud than right.

And part of that calls on American journalism to get over reporting the Bush administration as though it were a credible source. We need to face facts.

It seems to me that whatever the limits put on her, the problems facing her inside and outside the newsroom will make it difficult for her to return to the paper as a reporter.
My interpretation? "See ya Judy. Try to not let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." The Miller Mess: Lingering Issues Among the Answers - New York Times |

Other versions in Indiana, North Carolina and California, drop the final graf, but the impression to most local readers is that this is the voice of their local newspaper. Actually, it's a corporate voice, Freedom Communications Inc, and was written by a former Bush I staffer and conservative scribe now the editorial page editor of the Freedom-owned Colorado Springs Gazette.
So was this done on his own or is this yet another of those positions taken "for hire?" Michelle Pilecki: 'Editorials' a Chorus of One |

I wish we had dealt with the controversy over our coverage of WMD as soon as I became executive editor. At the time, we thought we had compelling reasons for kicking the issue down the road. The paper had just been through a major trauma, the Jayson Blair episode, and needed to regain its equilibrium. It felt somehow unsavory to begin a tenure by attacking our predecessors. I was trying to get my arms around a huge new job, appoint my team, get the paper fully back to normal, and I feared the WMD issue could become a crippling distraction.
