The x's are what the White House told the Times to chop out. A second article here talks about those deletions. This goes beyond ridiculous. George Orwell would see 1984 coming to fruition in the Bush administration. Redacted Version of Op-Ed on Iran - New York Times |

Perhaps it's because the mainstream media are too timid to declare the difference between right and wrong. Imagine if journalism consisted of more than a collage of conflicting talking points. Imagine the difference it would make if more brand-name reporters broke from the bizarre straitjacket of "balance," which equates fairness with putting all disputants on equal epistemological footing, no matter how deceitful or moronic they may be. There's a market for news that weighs counterclaims and assesses truth value. It just hasn't kept up with demand. No wonder Jon Stewart has such a loyal audience: He has a point of view, and it's rooted in the reality-based — not the ideology-based — world.
Good call from Marty. Less "balance," more "fair," meaning make a damn call. Does Iraq need more debate? - Los Angeles Times |

BECK: OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. I`ve been to mosques. I really don`t believe that Islam is a religion of evil. I -- you know, I think it`s being hijacked, quite frankly. With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, "Let`s cut and run." And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies."
What the fuck??? I expect asshats like Rush to say things like this. This is CNN? This? Fire the son of a bitch and let him go try to dislodge someone at Faux. CNN.com - Transcripts |

Another benefit of voting for Democrats that was overlooked this campaign season: you vote Democratic and you get someone who can actually sing (and know the words to) the National Anthem.
Worth a listen. They're much better than a lot of the hacks who do this at the ballpark. Crooks and Liars Colbert Welcomes Newly Elected Representative John Hall |

It's just a misplaced letter, but what a misplaced letter: Swapping a "D" for an "R" last night, Fox News and "The O'Reilly Factor" labeled disgraced pedophile Congressman Mark Foley, longtime Republican, as a Democrat.
Thanks Faux News. Why don't you just mislead people more. Eat The Press | |

That led to Keitel rewriting most of his own lines - which in turn meant almost daily revisions for cast members who had scenes with him. A particular point of contention was a scene in which O'Neill, observing reams of Arabic documents, asks his assistant, "Do we have Arab translators?" only to be told, "I don't know of any. I'll call around." "Keitel couldn't understand why the FBI didn't have Arabic translators, so the dialogue was changed on the spot," said a script supervisor. On one occasion, Keitel holed up in his hotel for an entire day with director David Cunningham revising the script. Other times, Cunningham would "fumble through the 9/11 Commission book trying to figure out how to correct details Keitel called into question," said the script supervisor.
Wow. Thanks Harvey. Too bad it didn't get the project scuttled, but it could have obviously been much worse. BILL SICS LEGAL EAGLES ON ABC By PHILIP RECCHIA and JENNIFER FERMINO - New York Post Online Edition: News |

Dissent and disagreement with government is the life’s blood of human freedom; And not merely because it is the first roadblock against the kind of tyranny the men Mr. Rumsfeld likes to think of as "his" troops still fight, this very evening, in Iraq. It is also essential. Because just every once in awhile… it is right — and the power to which it speaks, is wrong.
Olbermann blasting Rummy and the administration, with the video available. He may not be Murrow, but he's closer than anyone else on the air right now. Crooks and Liars » Keith Olbermann Delivers One Hell Of a Commentary on Rumsfeld |

An editor at The Hill has verified that it was indeed Jonathan Kaplan on the second segment of the call, who said, “Screw that and Screw him.” “Thank you for sending the files. There’s no doubt it was Kaplan.” The interchange was a clear example of the real bias of some in the media, who allow themselves to be played by the GOP. Mike Conallen, the GOP CoS who hacked into the call had revealed that day that “a reporter” gave him the dial in information.
There's a nice line in audio that basically confirms this as a deliberate move, Kaplan saying "Mike? You gonna help me out here?" This guy's next job will probably be at Fox because there's no question about what he did here.
