SHIFT THE BLAME, DODGE THE FIRE
Topic: Politics and Law 1:07 pm EST, Nov 30, 2004

] After Nuremberg, you recall we didn't hang the German
] "Soldaten," we hung the "Generalen." That was the right
] idea then, and it's the right idea now.

Georgie Geyer is pissed off again. Always fun when that happens.

Topic: Politics and Law 12:17 am EST, Nov  5, 2004

] Ashcroft is expected to resign before Bush's Jan. 20
] inauguration

And all this time I didn't think that God cared...

Yahoo! News - Bush Pledges to Make Changes to Tax Code
Topic: Politics and Law 8:13 pm EST, Nov  4, 2004

] "I'll reach out to everyone who shares our goals," said
] Bush, who 24 hours earlier had promised to try to win
] over those who voted for his Democratic opponent.

Once upon a time someone said "I'm a uniter, not a divider." I think what he meant was, he's a liar.

Yahoo! News - Household Survey Sees 100,000 Iraqi Deaths
Topic: Politics and Law 4:26 pm EDT, Oct 28, 2004

] A survey of deaths in Iraqi households estimates that as
] many as 100,000 more people may have died throughout the
] country in the 18 months after the U.S. invasion than
] would be expected based on the death rate before the war.

Yep, things are better!

The Lone Star ICONOCLAST - Editorial, Opinion of the Publishers
Topic: Politics and Law 7:09 pm EDT, Oct 26, 2004

] We should expect that a sitting President would vacation
] less, if at all, and instead tend to the business of
] running the country, especially if he is, as he likes to
] boast, a %u201Cwartime president.%u201D America is in
] service 365 days a year. We don%u2019t need a part-time
] President who does not show up for duty as
] Commander-In-Chief until he is forced to, and who is in a
] constant state of blameless denial when things don%u2019t
] get done.

I finally got around to checking the links that were provided in Doonebury. This is the paper from Crawford, Texas. It appears they want their village idiot back, or at least, no longer running the country.

God tells Pat Robertson Iraq would be a disaster
Topic: Politics and Law 6:22 pm EDT, Oct 20, 2004

] "I had deep misgivings about this war, deep misgivings.
] And I was trying to say, 'Mr. President, you better
] prepare the American people for casualties.' 'Oh, no,
] we're not going to have any casualties.' 'Well,' I said,
] 'it's the way it's going to be.' And so, it was messy.
] The lord told me it was going to be, A, a disaster and,
] B, messy."

I'm not sure what to think about this one. Pat Robertson really has a hotline to God? He's schizophrenic and thinks he does? The whole story is fabricated to make him look better? It really happened and W is so self absorbed he actually thought this? This is scary on about six or seven levels.

Yahoo! News - Legal Battle for Presidency Underway
Topic: Politics and Law 2:08 pm EDT, Oct 20, 2004

] The parties are also fighting over "provisional ballots"
] given to people who show up at the polls and do not find
] their names on voter rolls. The Help America Vote Act
] passed by Congress in 2002 required that those ballots be
] counted if it can be determined after Election Day that
] the voters were eligible.
]
]
] A number of Republican election chiefs have decided that
] those ballots should be counted only if they are cast in
] the voters' proper precincts. Democrats, who contend that
] provisional ballots will be used mainly by poor and
] minority voters who tend to move a lot, have sued in
] several states. Some federal courts have upheld those
] rules, but others, including one in Michigan yesterday,
] have sided with the Democrats in ruling that the
] provisional ballots should be counted regardless of where
] they are cast.

Yep, this is America, supposed to be the shining beacon of democracy. Amazing that it looks like we'll do just about anything to screw someone out of a vote because winning is more important. And we're supposed to be showing other countries how to do this?

Yahoo! News - Problems Crop Up in Fla. Early Voting
Topic: Politics and Law 12:38 pm EDT, Oct 18, 2004

] State Rep. Shelley Vana was not so happy. She said the
] paper absentee ballot she was given at a Palm Beach
] County site was missing one of its two pages, including
] the proposed amendments to the state constitution. She
] said election workers were indifferent when she pointed
] out the oversight.
]
]
] "There was absolutely no concern on the part of the folks
] at the Supervisor of Elections Office that this page was
] missing. This is not a good start. If there are
] incomplete ballots out there, I can't imagine I would be
] the only one getting it," she said.

This is not a good start...

Yahoo! News - Report: Jeb Bush Ignored Felon List Advice
Topic: Politics and Law 1:49 pm EDT, Oct 17, 2004

] Florida Gov. Jeb Bush ignored advice to throw out a
] flawed felon voter list before it went out to county
] election offices despite warnings from state officials

Screwing up who can and can't vote once is probably an error. Do it twice, and you're probably trying to screw someone. This is a nice dovetail to the Nevada reports.

BUSH RE-ELECTION WOULD LEAVE PATH OPEN TO IMPERIAL DREAMS
Topic: Politics and Law 5:20 pm EDT, Oct 15, 2004

] If the president wins again, he will oversee an even more
] radical administration than his first. With his
] all-or-nothing temperament, he will take re-election as
] carte blanche to go ahead with his program of pre-emption
] and imperium. Rather than pulling back from future Iraqs,
] he will rush ahead, feeling ordained by history.

Georgie is a little paranoid, but doesn't seem that far off a likely course.
