KING: We're back with Bob Woodward. The book "State of Denial." Tell us about Rumsfeld talking about Mission Accomplished banner on the ship. WOODWARD: This is May 1st, 2003, the very famous speech the president gave on the aircraft carrier, the Kennedy. You know there was that sign, Mission Accomplished. And I asked Rumsfeld about it and said he was -- Rumsfeld was in Baghdad and they sent him an advanced copy of the speech. And he said, I almost died because mission accomplished was in the speech. And he said, I got it out of the speech but I didn't get the sign down. Now they've always put out the story that it was the Navy that put up the sign. And there's the secretary of defense saying it was in the speech.
Let's remember, the entire time since this was done the shrubbery has said that this was done by the Navy, and the shrubbery had nothing to do with it. Chalk up yet another now documented lie. This got completely out of control some unknown amount of time ago (I'm going to guess January 20th, 2001, but I may be off by a day or two) and since then it has simply been one disaster after another. This has been described as the worst presidency since James Buchanon. That is not going to be in any way accurate. Assuming these people don't stage a Reichstag fire, someone else is going to become President in 2009, and they're going to suddenly find out all the things these guys have been doing that we don't know about yet. The Blotter - Foley Update |

The exchange continues in which Foley and the teen both appear to describe having sexual orgasms. Maf54: ok..i better go vote..did you know you would have this effect on me Teen: lol I guessed
The vote? The 2003 war time supplemental appropriation. War is sex? This has progressed from ugly, to insane and is now on it's way to pornographic surrealist idiocy. And that's just on Foley's side. Toss in Hastert, Boehner and Reynolds and it's sort of "The Three Stooges meat Liberace." The Blotter - Foley Update |

If, as appears highly likely, the "former chief of staff" who tried to cut this deal for Mark Foley is Kirk Fordham, then it means that Tom Reynolds' current Chief of Staff tried to suppress the release of the IMs by ABC and thereby deprive the American public of learning about the extent of Foley's conduct. That is the very definition of "cover-up."
This just keeps getting more appalling by the day. ABC is going to break the story, and the Chief of Staff for the congressman who heads the National Republican Congressional Commitee is trying to cut a deal to kill the story? There's one, and only one reason for that. They're trying to cover it up rather than throwing the guy under the bus. And why do you cover it up? Because it's the Republicans and if they try to save their guy or make it not such a huge deal publicly, then they piss of the base for supporting a fag. If anyone thought these guys might be able to retain a majority, that thought can be put out of your head right now. They should have tossed him under the bus. Instead, they've created a situation where guys who should have been reasonably safe in their elections (Denny for example) are now twisting in the wind when their opponant starts crowing that he tried to cover up someone going after minors. "I believe I talked to the Speaker and he told me it had been taken care of," said Boehner. "And, and, and my position is it's in his corner, it's his responsibility. The Clerk of the House who runs the page program, the Page Board—all report to the Speaker. And I believe it had been dealt with." Please note that by saying that he talked with the Speaker about Foley, Boehner is reversing course and going back to his original position.
Boehner seems to be trying to dump Foley on Denny. "it's not mine!" Political Radar |

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Washington Post last night that he had learned this spring of inappropriate "contact" between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he then told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Boehner later contacted The Post and said he could not remember whether he talked to Hastert.
More from the world of GOP scumbaggery (althouth this time it's more like buggery). The speaker and majority leader both knew for months that Foley was trying to make the page pool into his own personal stable of altar boys, but it seems they decided telling him to knock it off was enough. These are the people running the government. It's more than past time for regime change. Rep. Foley Chases Minors. Boehner and Hastert KNEW |

Kris Mineau — president of the Massachusetts Family Institute, which opposes gay marriage — predicted that people in other parts of the country will see Massachusetts as "the Las Vegas of gay marriage."
And this is a bad thing? Vegas brings in Billions (that's Billions, with a B) of dollars every year. But I guess it's more important make sure only straight people can commit married sodomy (except in Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Caolina, Utah, Virginia and Puerto Rico where it's just plain illegal to get a blow job). Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record), R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.
A thank you goes out to former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards who is reported to have said the only way he could lose is if he were "caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy." Guess which one this is? Foley submits resignation to Congress - Yahoo! News |

Ms. Pirro insisted several times that she had broken no laws, saying it would have been legal to secretly record Mr. Pirro on personal property. She denounced the federal inquiry as a “political witch hunt and smear campaign” brought by the same lawyer in the United States attorney’s office who helped convict Mr. Pirro of tax evasion charges in 2000.
Candidate for New York DA asks cops to bug her own home to see if husband is having an affair. Hilarity ensues. The natural response to her comments is, "Is it a still a witch hunt if there really are witches?" (see husband's conviction) Pirro Investigated Over Plan to Tape Husband - New York Times |

The last pre-election loophole through which John Bolton's confirmation might have snuck through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was at 2:15 this afternoon at a previously called "business meeting" of the Committee. That meeting has been cancelled -- and with it even the dimmest chance of John Bolton being confirmed as US Ambassador to the United Nations.
See ya John. Good luck on getting that stake pulled out of your chest. Bolton Nomination Dead - The Washington Note |
