Bremerhaven zoo veterinarian Joachim Schoene says the egg was placed in the male penguins' nest after its parents rejected it in late April. The males incubated it for some 30 days before it hatched and have continued to care for it. The chick's gender is not yet known.
Now that gay penguins are adopting, I am waiting for the religious wrong to call them out as heathen. Two Gay Penguins And A Chick: German Zoo Pair Raising Baby |

Al Gore and the likes still have not realized the obvious about the earthquakes in Southern California. Their scientific observations should recognize that when you have that many people living on the edge of a land mass that said land mass is going to crack and fall into the ocean.

Because the starting materials are affordable, relatively easy to scale up beyond a laboratory setting, and easy to retrofit to existing solar panels, the researchers believe the technology could find its way to the marketplace within three years. That, in turn, would substantially reduce the cost of solar electricity.

NASA warming scientist: 'This is the last chance' |

Longtime global warming skeptic Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., citing a recent poll, said in a statement, "Hansen, (former Vice President) Gore and the media have been trumpeting man-made climate doom since the 1980s. But Americans are not buying it."
With all respect due to Senator Canute, they don't buy floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes or plagues of locusts either, but that doesn't stop any of them from showing up. Some things in life at free, some of them, like anti-biotic resistant gonorrhea and James "Canute" Inhofe, are things we don't want . NASA warming scientist: 'This is the last chance' |

Seasoned polar scientists believe the chances of a totally icefreeNorth Pole this summer are greater than 50:50 because the normally thick ice formed over many years at the Pole has been blown away and replaced by hugeswathes of thinner ice formed over a single year.
Anyone still have questions about global warming? There may still be people out there who question how much of it is caused by us, but if you think it's not happening, you're part of the flat earth society. Exclusive: No ice at the North Pole - Climate Change, Environment - The Independent |

I went to attend a screening of the creationist propaganda movie, Expelled, a few minutes ago. Well, I tried ... but I was Expelled! It was kind of weird -- I was standing in line, hadn't even gotten to the point where I had to sign in and show ID, and a policeman pulled me out of line and told me I could not go in. I asked why, of course, and he said that a producer of the film had specifically instructed him that I was not to be allowed to attend. The officer also told me that if I tried to go in, I would be arrested. I assured him that I wasn't going to cause any trouble.
Keep reading this one. Getting expelled from Expelled is pretty funny in the first place, but read down until you get to the punch line of the story... Talk Reason: arguments against creationism, intelligent design, and religious apologetics |

From Matthew Chapman, writing in Harper's. In the case of Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, eleven parents sued to remove intelligent design from the curriculum. The defendants brought in some of the leading lights in the intelligent design movement to defend it as science and elucidate the gaps in evolution. The plaintiffs brought in experts on evolution to explain it and refute intelligent design. That's the basic story, but if you think you know everything there is to know about this, you are wrong. Only I know the truth.

Each participant was wired to an electroencephalograph that recorded activity in the anterior cingulate cortex, the part of the brain that detects conflicts between a habitual tendency (pressing a key) and a more appropriate response (not pressing the key). Liberals had more brain activity and made fewer mistakes than conservatives when they saw a W, researchers said. Liberals and conservatives were equally accurate in recognizing M.
In other words, liberals are not as big a bunch of fuck-ups as conservatives. Case closed. Study finds left-wing brain, right-wing brain - Los Angeles Times |
