"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

Featuring believable characters, plenty of lasting appeal, and a lot of challenge and variety, real life is absolutely recommendable to those who've grown weary of all the cookie-cutter games that have tried to emulate its popularity--or to just about anyone, really.

Well, you know, I'm not saying Saddam Hussein was a good man, but he's no worse than George Bush. Saddam Hussein didn't pull the trigger, didn't commit the rapes. Neither did George Bush. But both men are responsible for them under their reigns of terror. I don't buy that. Iraq did not have al Qaeda in it. Al Qaeda supposedly killed my son. Under Saddam Hussein, no al Qaeda. Under George Bush, al Qaeda. Under Saddam Hussein, relative stability. Under George Bush, instability. Under Saddam Hussein, about 30,000 deaths a year. Under George Bush, about 60,000 deaths a year. I don't get it. Why is it better to have George Bush the king of Iraq rather than Saddam Hussein?

Bakker already has treated 20 video game addicts, aged 13 to 30, since January. Some show withdrawal symptoms, such as shaking and sweating, when they look at a computer.
The part of this that's a problem is, it blames the games. I don't want to blame the person who is so out of their gourd that they're popping pills to stay awake longer so they can play longer, but it's not like the games are doing things to your CNS (other than maybe giving you the headache from hell because the monitor refresh rate is bad). Making the nuts into victims makes games bad and the nuts ok. Bullshit. They're nuts, that's why they have the problem, and if it wasn't video games it'd be something else. George Bush Sr. asked retired general to replace Rumsfeld | Salon.com |

Former President George H.W. Bush waged a secret campaign over several months early this year to remove Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. The elder Bush went so far as to recruit Rumsfeld's potential replacement, personally asking a retired four-star general if he would accept the position, a reliable source close to the general told me. But the former president's effort failed, apparently rebuffed by the current president. When seven retired generals who had been commanders in Iraq demanded Rumsfeld's resignation in April, the younger Bush leapt to his defense. "I'm the decider and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain," he said. His endorsement of Rumsfeld was a rebuke not only to the generals but also to his father.
Not even dad approves of Jr. After running every company he's ever worked with and the Texas Rangers into the ground, why did anyone think what he was going to do to the country would be any different? George Bush Sr. asked retired general to replace Rumsfeld | Salon.com |

Prendergast estimated that CIA-operated flights into Somalia have been bringing in $100,000 to $150,000 per month for the warlords. The flights remain in Somalia for the day, he said, so that U.S. agents can confer with their allies.
Cool, we really are the black hats. Seems we've been funneling money into Somalia that's being used to circumvent a UN arms trading ban. Don Pardo? Who's our next contestant? Experts say US funding Somali warlords - Yahoo! News |

New policies on prisoners being drawn up by the Pentagon will reportedly omit a key tenet of the Geneva Convention that explicitly bans "humiliating and degrading treatment."
Hey guess what? We're the bad guys now. And now here's where it gets funny. As signatories to a ratified Geneva Convention, the military is required to follow it. Why doesn't George simply break open the glass at the National Archives and piss right on the Constitution and Declaration of Independence? OLBERMANN: Wrong answer. When you are that wrong, when you are defending Nazi war criminals and pinning their crimes on Americans and you get caught doing so twice, you‘re supposed to say I‘m sorry, I was wrong, and then you‘re supposed to shut up for a long time. Instead, FOX washed its transcript of O‘Reilly‘s remarks Tuesday. Its Web site claims O‘Reilly said in Normandy, when, as you heard, in fact, he said in Malmedy. The rewriting of past reporting worthy of George Orwell has now carried over into such online transcription services as Burell‘s and Factiva. Whatever did or did not happen later in supposed or actual retribution, the victims at Malmedy were Americans, gunned down while surrendering by Nazis in 1944 and again Tuesday night and Wednesday night by a false patriot who would rather be loud than right.

Justice Department officials now insist that this specific case required them, for the first time, to conduct a search. I regret that when they reached this conclusion, they did not work with us to figure out a way to do it consistently with the Constitution. But that is behind us now. I am confident that in the next 45 days, the lawyers will figure out how to do it right.
Yes Denny, there is a right way. When they go to search your office, they'll arrest you. I've been less than pleased with the actions of the executive branch for quite some time, but in this case, the FBI went to the judiciary to get the warrant, had it approved, and conducted their search. That the legislative branch has refused to exercise their check and balance authority does not mean that the other branches are obliged to give them a free pass. The FBI went by the book. The search was properly requested and conducted. And finally, fuck you Denny Hastert. You've been sitting by while the executive branch has run roughshod over the rest of the country, and now expect us to agree when you cry "foul!" No. The FBI made their case, got their warrant and should now arrest and prosecute the bum. If we're fortunate, you'll be next and maybe we'll go back to having the independent legislature that is a hallmark of American government. There's a right way - Yahoo! News |
