"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ" --Gandhi

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing." -Thomas Jefferson-

"In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in 12 years, we'll be voting for plants." -Lewis Black-

"When you're born in the world you're given a ticket to the freakshow; when you're born in America you're given a front-row seat. And some of us in the front row have notebooks and pencils." -George Carlin

Ex-Far West president gets probation

"I'm pleased it's over and that it came out the way it did," a still-emotional Weidman said in the hallway outside the courtroom moments after the sentence was handed down. "But, it will always be a sore spot in everyone's life. I'm sorry for the families and their loses and sorrow."

Two counts of homicide and the guy gets probation and a little community service? I'll bet he's pleased it came out that way.

NSA Wiretap Decision

Consequently, the court finds Defendants’ argument that they cannot defend this case without the use of classified information to be disingenuous and without merit.

One place you don't want to be is on the wrong side of a judge saying you've been disingenuous. That's legalese for "lying sack of crap."

A senior congressional source said it's believed the plotters planned to mix a "British version of Gatorade" with a gel-like substance to make an explosive that they would possibly trigger with an MP3 player or cell phone.

What's the "gel-like substance?" C4?

Topic: Politics and Law 2:06 pm EDT, Aug 10, 2006

In a speech Wednesday Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman hailed Lieberman as a "different kind of politician, and a different kind of Democrat."

Yes, most of us call that "different kind of Democrat" a Republican.

Bush and Condi clash over Israel
Topic: International Relations 4:06 pm EDT, Aug  9, 2006

"I think if you think of what's happening in Lebanon and Israel right now, you see the face of the beginning of the 21st century," Mr. Rumsfeld said in a radio interview on Aug. 2.

And that face would be a state of constant war? That sounds like a pretty crappy century to me.

Now, some high-profile Democratic lawmakers, including Lautenberg and Barack Obama (D-IL), have indicated to RAW STORY that while they support Lieberman in the race, they will back challenger Lamont in the general election, should Lieberman walk away without the nomination.

Things are getting rough up in Connecticut...

Embattled Rep. Ney Won't Seek Reelection
Topic: Politics and Law 3:09 pm EDT, Aug  8, 2006

If he lost his House seat for the party, Boehner is said to have cautioned, Ney could not expect a lucrative career on K Street to pay those tuition bills, along with the hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees piling up.

This is how the Republicans handle people in the party who should go to jail???

"Well Bob, we think you should take a seat, and if you don't, we won't let you get one of those jobs over on K Street. You know, the ones where those guys WHO BRIBED YOU AND CAUSED YOU TO HAVE THIS ETHICS DISATER IN THE FIRST DAMN PLACE work."

Go to Jail. Go down K Street on your way to jail. Collect a few dozen lobbyists from K Street. Take them to jail with you.

Ambassador claims shortly before invasion, Bush didn't know there were two sects of Islam
Topic: International Relations 1:59 pm EDT, Aug  7, 2006

Once considered to be Iraq’s worst enemy, Iran has now created, financed and armed the Shiite Islamic movements within southern Iraq. Since the Iraqi Parliamentary elections of 2005, the Shiites have made considerable political gains and now have substantial influence over the country’s U.S.-created military, its police, and the central government in Baghdad. In addition, Iraq is developing economic ties with Iran that Galbraith believes could soon link the two countries’ strategic oil supplies.

That sounds about right. Iraq and Iran have historically been opposed, but a civil war between the Shiites and Sunnis gives a religious edge to this where the Iranians can support the Shiites at basically no cost to themselves. And if we oppose them, we're in opposition to the main group in that "unity government."

Heckuva job Georgie.
