"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"The people would not be able to establish that Mr. Karr committed this crime despite his repeated insistence that he did," District Attorney Mary Lacy said in court papers.

I waited in total silence for about 10 minutes as he kept searching and searching, until I finally asked him, "What are you looking for?" "Contraband," he said without looking up at me. "Such as?" "Child pornography, hate propaganda." "Child porn I can understand, that's illegal. But hate propaganda is protected speech." Now he looked up. "What country do you think you're in?" "Oh, it's illegal in Canada?" "I honestly don't know. But that doesn't matter. I get to decide what goes in this country. Do you have a problem with that?" I paused for a long time while I thought about what I should say to this. "Yes." "Yes, you do have a problem?" "Yes, I do. If it's illegal in Canada I'll understand, but saying 'I don't want it in my country' isn't good enough when you're a government official."
A) this is a guy who shouldn't be in law enforcement, and B) the story is hilarious. WoW.com Forums - I played WoW, I became a terrorist (story!) |

Orlando has never been a strategic military target, and yet the folks there are furious. Yes, Orlando, home of the Magic Kingdom and mandated happiness. Who knows? Maybe living in Goofyville wears thin after 35 years.
And now as a counter point to the drunkest cities in the country, NONE of the top ten drunkest are in the top ten angriest! 6 of the drunkest are in the top 50 angry, but the top 5 drunks? Only Cleveland made the top 50. I guess there really is such a thing as a "happy drunk." How Angry Is Your City? |

The men and three relatives had been in Pakistan for more than four years and tried to return to the United States on April 21 as a federal jury in Sacramento deliberated Hayat's fate. But they were pulled aside during a layover in Hong Kong and told there was a problem with their passports, said Julia Harumi Mass, their attorney. The father and son were forced to pay for a flight back to Islamabad because they were on the government's "no-fly" list, Mass said. Muhammad Ismail's wife, teenage daughter and younger son, who were not on the list, continued on to the United States.
These guys should either be charged or allowed to come home. Hey! I know! Let's reopen the concentration camps we stuck the japs in in WWII! We've got a test version already operating down in Gitmo, we should have a pretty good idea of how to do it by now. 2 Lodi residents refused entry back into U.S. |

The father of a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the head while ghost hunting with friends said Friday that the group had been out for harmless fun.
Let's see, 40 year old guy, lives with his mother, holy crap! Check out that haircut! A lot of GenX is a bit loopy, I mean hell, who isn't, but it's not kids who are a danger, there's no "youth gone wild!" It's the adults that are batshit crazy, and they're armed. This year, he traveled to Louisiana and Mississippi four times between January and April. On Aug. 29, he plans to spend the anniversary of Katrina by making his 13th post-Katrina stop to the storm zone with a visit to New Orleans and Mississippi. One point the president is sure to make: Washington has already promised $110 billion for victims.
It's been a year, and New Orleans is still just as trashed as ever. After a year of promising all that money, where has it gone? I never thought I'd say this but Gingrich is at least half right when he says "from that point on, people just look at us and see `Brownie, you're doing a great job,' and they just think we're not in touch with reality." The part he got wrong in there is he implys that they are in touch with reality. The only time reality makes it through the White House Gate is when it kicks it in, and even then, the occupants find a way to ignore it. Katrina v. Bush |

The Raw Story | FBI: Brooklyn HDTV company provided users with 'Hezbollah TV' |

A complaint announced today by the FBI alleges that through a company called HDTV Ltd. located in Brooklyn, Iqbal and others provided customers in the New York area with satellite broadcasts of al Manar, which is a television station owned and/or operated by Hezbollah. The Department of Treasury named al Manar as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity" in March 2006, thereby making it a crime to, among other things, engage in business transactions with al Manar. In conjunction with the arrest, agents executed search warrants at both HDTV's Brooklyn office and Iqbal's Staten Island residence where, it is alleged, Iqbal maintained several satellite dishes.
Okay, so here's an interesting question. If he's paying Al Manar to distribute their signal, he's consorting with terrorists, but if he's not paying them, then he's stealing their signal and liable under FCC copyright issues? I'd be interested to see what he was doing, because I'm not seeing any way to square this with the first amendment. You can do time, place and manner restrictions, and you can't shout "Movie!" in a crowded firehouse or the like, but otherwise, speech may not be restricted. This one looks really ugly. Nine black children attending schools in northwestern Louisiana's Red River Parish were directed last week to the back of a school bus by a white driver who designated the front seats for white children, the mother of one of the children said. "All nine children were assigned to two seats in the back of the bus and the older ones had to hold the smaller ones in their laps," Iva Richmond, mother of two of the children, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

And if we are the ones not actively involved in electing those godly men and women and if people aren’t involved in helping godly men in getting elected than we’re going to have a nation of secular laws. That’s not what our founding fathers intended and that’s certainly isn’t what God intended.
Actually, that is exactly what they intended. The majority of the founding fathers are best described as deists, but more to the point, they were already fully aware of the issues of sectional fighting with the wars between England and France being in great part about religion, and they were all "Christian" of one sort or another. In Revolutionary America there were already multiple groups, and the only way they could see the government operating was if it were secular. She does get one point right though, it does look like "Florida is the forerunner state." It was the first recent state where the actual election results were tossed out, and led the way for places like Ohio. There's a God, and he's looking at what this nut job is doing, and wondering how He can arrange to have a ship fall on her. Like, ark size... Katherine Harris |
