Ms. Pirro insisted several times that she had broken no laws, saying it would have been legal to secretly record Mr. Pirro on personal property. She denounced the federal inquiry as a “political witch hunt and smear campaign” brought by the same lawyer in the United States attorney’s office who helped convict Mr. Pirro of tax evasion charges in 2000.
Candidate for New York DA asks cops to bug her own home to see if husband is having an affair. Hilarity ensues. The natural response to her comments is, "Is it a still a witch hunt if there really are witches?" (see husband's conviction) Pirro Investigated Over Plan to Tape Husband - New York Times |

Musgrave: Gay Marriage ‘Is The Most Important Issue That We Face Today’ |

But this battle is the most important issue that we face today, and what an honor it has been to serve in the United States Congress and carry the Marriage Amendment.
I don't like to crosspost from blogs much but... Congresswoman Musgrave thinks banning gay marriage is the most important issue we face today? Not the war in Iraq. Not the "War on Terror." Not the fact that madian income is down. Not torture and war crimes against this country. Not the problems on oil supply. Not the threat of global warming and the possibility of most of Florida to turn into Venice. Not New Orleans which over a year after Katrina is still a wasteland. Not wiretaps. Not W's use of the Constitution to wipe his backside. Not the hole in the ground that still gapes in lower Manhatten. Not poverty. Not cancer. The most important thing to Congresswoman Musgrave is making sure gay people can't get their partners on joint health insurance, or file a joint tax return? Lady, either get your priorities straight or go for a long drive in a short garage and stop stealing our oxygen. Musgrave: Gay Marriage ‘Is The Most Important Issue That We Face Today’ |

Then, one muggy day in mid-August, Hood was surprised to see the president of Diebold's election unit, Bob Urosevich, arrive in Georgia from his headquarters in Texas. With the primaries looming, Urosevich was personally distributing a "patch," a little piece of software designed to correct glitches in the computer program. "We were told that it was intended to fix the clock in the system, which it didn't do," Hood says. "The curious thing is the very swift, covert way this was done."
More questions about Diebold stealing elections. At this point, the third world is doing a better job than we are. Rolling Stone : Robert F. Kennedy Jr. -- Will The Next Election Be Hacked? |

Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication, police said, even putting two more pills into his mouth after a friend intervened.
Whoops. This isn't a good sign... Update: TO says it was a drug interaction making him unresponsive, not a suicide attempt. So, he's kinda stupid and took more Vicodins than he should have. I guess stupid is better than depressed (in some ways) but stupid is as stupid does. wcbstv.com - Police: NFL Star Terrell Owens Attempts Suicide |

The last pre-election loophole through which John Bolton's confirmation might have snuck through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was at 2:15 this afternoon at a previously called "business meeting" of the Committee. That meeting has been cancelled -- and with it even the dimmest chance of John Bolton being confirmed as US Ambassador to the United Nations.
See ya John. Good luck on getting that stake pulled out of your chest. Bolton Nomination Dead - The Washington Note |

Rice said Clarke "left when he did not become deputy director of homeland security." The interview has been the focus of much attention — drawing nearly 1.2 million views on YouTube and earning the show its best ratings in nearly three years. Rice questioned the value of the dialogue. "I think this is not a very fruitful discussion," she said. "We've been through it. The 9/11 commission has turned over every rock and we know exactly what they said."
Let's clarify something here. To become "deputy director of homeland security," the non-promotion that Clarke supposedly left over, you need a Department of Homeland Security, said department doesn't exist until November of 2002. Clarke was still the number one guy at the time of the September 11 attacks, and has repeatedly stated he tried to get meetings with the Bush White House to get them up to speed and get a plan for dealing with Al-Q prior to everything going to shit. Basically Condi is saying Clarke wasn't fired, they just assigned all his work away from him and left him with a desk with nothing on it, which amounts to the same thing but keeps paying him. It does not answer the question about why he was blown off January to September, especially in light of things like the infamous PDB. Rice challenges Clinton on terror record - Yahoo! News |

CNN aired an interview with President Bush in which he declared that one day the Iraq war will look like "just a comma."
With well over 100,000 dead in Iraq already, the only way it's going to look like a "comma" is if something launches the death toll into the tens of millions. Battle Breaks Out in Media Over Bleak NIE Iraq Assessment |
