"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ" --Gandhi

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing." -Thomas Jefferson-

"In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in 12 years, we'll be voting for plants." -Lewis Black-

"When you're born in the world you're given a ticket to the freakshow; when you're born in America you're given a front-row seat. And some of us in the front row have notebooks and pencils." -George Carlin

Political Radar: Dems' Poster Child Faces a Firestorm

Manley cited an e-mail sent to reporters by a Senate Republican leadership aide, summing up recent blog traffic about the boy's family. A spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., declined to comment on Manley's charge that GOP aides were complicit in spreading disparaging information about Frosts.

So rather than actually do something, someone in Mitch McConnell's office sent out email to beat the drums for people like Malkin and Limbaugh to further fuck up the life of a 12 year old kid whose life is already hell after a car wreck. Reprehensible doesn't even start to describe this.

Vatican to publish Templar trial papers - Yahoo! News
Topic: Society 3:19 pm EDT, Oct 12, 2007

The Vatican has published secret documents about the trial of the Knights Templar, including a parchment — long ignored because of a vague catalog entry in 1628 — showing that Pope Clement V initially absolved the medieval order of heresy.

Just when you thought something new would be hard to find on these guys...

Selective Justice in Alabama? - TIME

Young testified that he had furnished Siegelman with an all-terrain vehicle and a motorcycle, lavishing money on the Governor and his aides. But he was an equal-opportunity influence monger. Early in the investigation, in November 2001, Young announced that five years earlier, he "personally provided Sessions with cash campaign contributions," according to an FBI memo of the interview. Prosecutors didn't follow up that surprising statement with questions, but Young volunteered more. The memo adds that "on one occasion he [Young] provided Session [sic] with $5,000 to $7,000 using two intermediaries," one of whom held a senior position with Sessions' campaign. On another occasion, the FBI records show, Young talked about providing "$10,000 to $15,000 to Session [sic]. Young had his secretaries and friends write checks to the Sessions campaign and Young reimbursed the secretaries and friends for their contributions."

And the DoJ ignored this (or were instructed to ignore it) because of their political affiliation. This isn't politics as usual, this is RICO.

Leak Severed a Link to Al-Qaeda's Secrets
Topic: War on Terrorism 11:25 pm EDT, Oct  9, 2007

Exactly what happened next is unclear. But within minutes of Katz's e-mail to the White House, government-registered computers began downloading the video from SITE's server, according to a log of file transfers. The records show dozens of downloads over the next three hours from computers with addresses registered to defense and intelligence agencies.

By midafternoon, several television news networks reported obtaining copies of the transcript. A copy posted around 3 p.m. on Fox News's Web site referred to SITE and included page markers identical to those used by the group. "This confirms that the U.S. government was responsible for the leak of this document," Katz wrote in an e-mail to Leiter at 5 p.m.

I'm seeing this as most damning out of this. Yes, SITE may have wanted to be able to point at this as a coup for getting funding, The fact that it was leaked so quickly, and who it was leaked to does indicate this one came from the top.

U.S. Army secretary works to fix GI Bill for Minnesotans
Topic: Politics and Law 7:50 pm EDT, Oct  9, 2007

The 1,162 affected troops served just as long as their colleagues -- 22 consecutive months, the longest of any U.S. unit in Iraq -- but they are not eligible to enroll in the Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill because they were demobilized before serving the 730 days of active duty deployment required by the bill.

How long before? From one to 12 days.

This is how the administration "supports the troops." Cut their pay, cut their benefits, cut funding to the VA, extend the tours, shorten the downtime, use stop loss to keep them in after their terms are up, don't supply the body armor, don't supply the vehicle armor. And that's just the major issues. Things like this barely make the local news.

Google logo tweak sends critics into orbit - Los Angeles Times
Topic: Media 6:13 pm EDT, Oct  9, 2007

Not only did Google honor an achievement by a totalitarian regime that was our Cold War enemy, they griped, but it did so without having ever altered its logo to commemorate U.S. military personnel on Memorial Day or Veterans Day.

"It's a kick to your belly," said conservative blogger Giovanni Gallucci, 39, a social media consultant from Dallas. "I understand these guys are scientists and engineers and they have their quirks and want to make sure people are recognized who might not normally be recognized . . . but why not celebrate the struggles that we've come through as a people?"

Conservatives see the Sputnik logo as particularly galling because the search giant's in-house artist has tweaked the Google logo for a variety of obscure events, including World Water Day, Persian New Year, painter Edvard Munch's birthday and China's Dragon Boat Festival.

Oh boo hoo you whining maggots. They want to play with shit, and the stuff they play with is stuff they can have fun with or stuff they consider cool. Maybe they could do the bit like the Mount Suribachi thing with the logo but never thought of it. The Sputnik 50th anniversary is something that screams attention and they figured out a fun way to do it. If conservatives don't like it, they should build their own Google to do crap like this with, and then watch it go right down the tank just like The 1/2 Hour News Hour.

LEG AVERSION

CHRISTIAN "media watchdog group" The Resistance is all worked up over the ultra-femme anchors of Fox News. The group's leader, Mark Dice, rants in an e-mail, "I see shorter skirts on the women of Fox News than I do on the prostitutes being arrested on cop shows." Fox responded, "We're always flattered to have everyone talking about us in one form or another."

You can skip the link other than to pump up the numbers, that's the entire article. It seems my theme for the day is WTF?

Meet Bianca. Just Bianca.

Like Bjork. Or Borat.

She captivated those who caught her debut at the film festival here last month in the unconventional comedy Lars and the Real Girl. The rest of the world will be able to experience the magic that is Bianca starting Friday.

WTF? Let me make note that the title is a reference, then I can freely repeat, WTF?

Qaeda Goes Dark After a U.S. Slip - October 9, 2007 - The New York Sun
Topic: War on Terrorism 5:15 pm EDT, Oct  9, 2007

Al Qaeda's Internet communications system has suddenly gone dark to American intelligence after the leak of Osama bin Laden's September 11 speech inadvertently disclosed the fact that we had penetrated the enemy's system.

Want a leak worth investigating? How about this one. Who in the government leaked this to ABC, and why? I have my suspicions, but this is a case of releasing specific, secret, legal, methods and means. That places this in an entirely different category from other leaks (black sites - not legal, nor specific. wiretaps - again, not specific, not secret, and probably also illegal).
