"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ" --Gandhi

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing." -Thomas Jefferson-

"In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in 12 years, we'll be voting for plants." -Lewis Black-

"When you're born in the world you're given a ticket to the freakshow; when you're born in America you're given a front-row seat. And some of us in the front row have notebooks and pencils." -George Carlin

It's no longer simply a style concern for porn stars; it seems that everyone now – guy or gal – is giving at least some thought to pubic hair care.

Yep, fair and balanced. Reasons for and against pubic hair. Welcome to Fox Porn, I mean News. I mean...

Obama says Clinton, McCain wrong on gas taxes - Yahoo! News
Topic: Current Events 1:43 pm EDT, May  2, 2008

"All I hear about is gas prices. Gas and diesel, everywhere," she said. "Some people say we don't need to get a gas tax holiday at all, it's a gimmick ... I want the Congress to stand up and vote. Are they for the oil companies, or are they for you?"

That's Hillary's quote. Now, here's a simple question, what the hell does being for or against the oil companies have to do with the gas tax? It seems to me, adding the hiatus in there is FOR the oil companies because the price goes down 10 cents, but it's going in the oil company pockets because the tax is higher.

And oh yeah, the money that is spent on the gas tax? That goes to things like bridges that aren't supposed to fall down, and roads that are supposed to be open, and potholes that are supposed to be filled. You'd be better off sending everyone a $20 bill. Oh wait, you did that with the "stimulus package."

I'm not sure which is worse, the chattering class or the pandering class.

U.S. has Mandela on terrorist list - USATODAY.com
Topic: International Relations 12:29 pm EDT, May  1, 2008

Nobel Peace Prize winner and international symbol of freedom Nelson Mandela is flagged on U.S. terrorist watch lists and needs special permission to visit the USA. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice calls the situation "embarrassing," and some members of Congress vow to fix it.

This is the sort of thing that should have been fixed years ago, and the only reason it seems it's getting fixed now is that someone outside state noticed it? Let me explain something simple. When you are in government and see this sort of thing happening, it's your job to fix it. That's what "and justice for all" means.

DynCorp Manager Used Armored Car To Transport Hookers in Iraq
Topic: War on Terrorism 5:50 pm EDT, Apr 29, 2008

I believe that my co-worker could have survived if he had been riding in an armored car. At the time, the armored car that he would otherwise have been riding in was being used by the contractor’s manager to transport prostitutes from Kuwait to Baghdad.

Quote of the week! Just, wow...

Attorney Firing Scandal Part Deux
Topic: Politics and Law 1:46 pm EDT, Apr 25, 2008

On Wednesday, the name of longtime Bush administration political guru Karl Rove was thrown into the mix as part of an alleged initiative to squelch the criminal investigation into Rezko by dumping U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald.

At a hearing outside the presence of jurors, one of Fitzgerald's prosecutors said former Blagojevich administration official Ali Ata was prepared to testify to a conversation he had with Rezko in late-2004 about a scheme to use Illinois' Republican National Committeeman Robert Kjellander to approach his good friend Rove. The idea was to get Rove to use his clout in the Bush White House to have Fitzgerald removed, the prosecutor said Ata would testify.

Ata pleaded guilty to corruption charges in a separate criminal case involving Rezko on Tuesday and has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. Government lawyers have also said they have another witness who would be able to back up the story that there was a move afoot to oust Fitzgerald.

Kjellander and a lawyer for Rove flatly denied they were involved in any such scheme.

This little gem is hidden in the mess that is the Rezko coverage. Influence peddling? To quote Kool-Aid Man, "Oh YEAH!"

ABC News: Cheney OK'd 'Torture'; Bush Insulated
Topic: Politics and Law 12:21 pm EDT, Apr 11, 2008

"Who would have thought that in the United States of America in the 21st century, the top officials of the executive branch would routinely gather in the White House to approve torture?" Kennedy said in a statement. "Long after President Bush has left office, our country will continue to pay the price for his administration's renegade repudiation of the rule of law and fundamental human rights."

Partisan divide? Absolutely. We now have a torture party and a no-torture party. There isn't a much clearer divide than that.

In Al Gore's brand-new slideshow (premiering exclusively on TED.com), he presents evidence that the pace of climate change may be even worse than scientists were recently predicting, and challenges us to act with a sense of "generational mission"

Pretty good, his take on the arctic ice cap is powerful.

Areas of Baghdad fall to militias as Iraqi Army falters in Basra - Times Online
Topic: Current Events 7:36 pm EDT, Mar 27, 2008

With the threat of a civil war looming in the south, Nouri al-Maliki’s police chief in Basra narrowly escaped assassination in the crucial port city, while in Baghdad, the spokesman for the Iraqi side of the US military surge was kidnapped by gunmen and his house burnt to the ground.

See? The surge is working! Violence is down, so we have to keep our guys there. Wait, violence is up so we have to keep our... Enough already!

Here, this is your BEST CASE SCENARIO. We pull every out right now, let the Sunnis Shi'ites, and Kurds kick the crap out of each other for the next 6 months to a year, try to keep the Turks from invading what will soon be greater Kurdistan, try to keep the Iranians from invading to annex the eastern half of Iraq (that's the part with the oil in it) and get the hell out of the way.

Don't like that one? Here, this is your worst case.
