"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ" --Gandhi

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing." -Thomas Jefferson-

"In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in 12 years, we'll be voting for plants." -Lewis Black-

"When you're born in the world you're given a ticket to the freakshow; when you're born in America you're given a front-row seat. And some of us in the front row have notebooks and pencils." -George Carlin

] Jones, a private tutor, said intelligent design is not
] really being "taught" in class. "They're reading a
] statement about it," she said.

I'm not sure there's actually anything to "teach" in intelligent design. The whole idea is "Gee, this is really complicated so someone had to do it, but we're not going to talk about who."

That's not science. Science is all about how things work. This is anti-science. "Intelligent Design" says this is too big for us to wrap our little brains around." That's not just stupid, it's un-American. When Superman gets brought up on "Truth, Justice, and the American Way," that American Way is hard work, honest effort and being smarter than the next guy who didn't work as hard or didn't put out the effort.

This makes us dumber, and condemns everyone under it to that.

Voinovich Slams Bolton but OKs Senate Vote
Topic: Politics and Law 2:41 pm EDT, May 12, 2005

] Voinovich called Bolton "the poster child of what someone
] in the diplomatic corps should not be." He said Bolton
] would be fired if he was in the private sector.

That's pretty harsh. If you feel that way, why not simply vote against him and be done with it?

United Gets OK to Dump Four Pension Plans
Topic: Business 12:48 pm EDT, May 11, 2005

] "Taxpayers had better buckle up because we will be in for
] a bumpy ride of bailout after bailout, as more and more
] corporations dump their pension plan obligations on the
] PBGC," said U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., referring
] to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. that already is
] operating at a more than $23 billion deficit.

So let me see if I have this right. Personal bankruptcy (primarily caused by medical bills that have skyrocketed) is now much harder to do, at the same time these guys can dump off things that they agreed to in contract decades ago? AND we get stiffed with the bill as it gets handed off to the government?

Abu Ghraib Military Trial Set to Begin
Topic: War on Terrorism 12:26 pm EDT, May 11, 2005

] Two of the most notorious pictures from the Abu Ghraib
] prison scandal were expected to figure in a military
] trial set to begin this week, barring a last-minute plea
] deal.

Why do I get the impression the "moral" of this story is really, "don't take pictures."

Demoted General Says Army Used Old Case - Yahoo! News
Topic: War on Terrorism 8:57 pm EDT, May 10, 2005

] Karpinski has previously said she was not given full
] authority over Abu Ghraib and that when photographs of
] the abuse became public she was made a scapegoat. In her
] e-mail, she didn't respond to the Army's substantiated
] charge that she was in dereliction of duty.
]
]
] No one from the
]
] Department of Defense telephoned Karpinski to inform her
] of the findings, she said.
]
]
] "I did not find out about this action from any one of
] these sorry leaders," Karpinski said. "Instead, a
] voicemail message on my cell phone from an LA Times
] reporter alerted me to what was announced at the
]
] Pentagon briefing. If they are so sure about what they
] are doing, why are they afraid to tell me to my face?"

Let's find someone to blame, but since the report has to be factual, they can't actually blame her for Abu Gharib. Way to go.

] The Swedish situation is different from that in countries
] where organized crime, drug trade and easy access to
] weapons result in a higher percentage of murders
] committed by people who are not certifiably ill than in
] Western Europe, the study's authors acknowledged.
]
]
] They cited as examples the United States, Bolivia, South
] Africa and the Baltic countries.

Wow! We rank right up there with Bolivia!

U.S. promotes double standard in how it deals with 'terrorist' cases - Yahoo! News

] The deportation order that was overturned said Bosch had
] been "resolute and unwavering in his advocacy of
] terrorist violence" for 30 years. In 1968, Bosch was
] convicted of firing a bazooka at a Polish freighter in
] Miami's harbor. Like Posada, Bosch is wanted in Cuba and

ABC News: Bush Salutes Soviet Victory in Red Square
Topic: Miscellaneous 8:51 pm EDT, May  9, 2005

] Bush watched goose-stepping soldiers and flags emblazoned
] with the Soviet hammer and sickle that recalled the days
] of communist rule. He sat beside Putin on a reviewing
] stand next to Lenin's tomb.
]
]
] White House counselor Dan Bartlett said Bush was not
] uncomfortable with the trappings. Bartlett said it
] "demonstrates how far we've come in the world"

Yep, just shows Bush is more at home in a dictatorship where they aren't asking him questions like, "Do you think Iraq exported their nuclear program to North Korea?"

Institute for Backup Trauma

For Python fans. And to think I turned down the LiveVault franchise for Nashville. sigh.

That's good. I don't care about the actual product, I'm not in an IT department, but the whole thing is very well done.

FDA to Implement Gay Sperm Donor Rules
Topic: Politics and Law 2:14 am EDT, May  6, 2005

] "Under these rules, a heterosexual man who had

] later, but a gay man in a monogamous, safe-sex
] relationship is not OK unless he's been celibate for five

Gee, it's sure nice to see that while we're telling Muslim countries thay can loosen up up get shot, we're doing the opposite.
