Abu Mazen, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Nabil Shaath, his Foreign Minister, describe their first meeting with President Bush in June 2003. Nabil Shaath says: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'"
God told George to invade Iraq??? Ummmm... Is the Oval Office a padded room now? BBC - Press Office - George Bush on Elusive Peace |

The government argued that America's enemies might exploit the pictures for propaganda purposes by saying the photos represent the attitudes of all Americans toward the Iraqi people. The judge acknowledged such a risk but said "the education and debate that such publicity will foster will strengthen our purpose, and, by enabling such deficiencies as may be perceived to be debated and corrected, show our strength as a vibrant and functioning democracy to be emulated."
Thank you Judge Hellerstein. That position is exactly why the United States is a great country. Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib Photos |

And now, Iraq officially descends into civil war. Gee, never saw this coming... Zarqawi declares war on Iraq Shi'ites |

Fifteen have been hospitalized and 13 of those were being fed through tubes, Behrens said in a written response to questions from The Associated Press. Medics are monitoring all 89 and checking their vital signs daily, he added.
I see that we're getting plenty of valuable information out of them. When people get to this point, something is very seriously wrong. U.S. Military Tube-Feeds 13 Gitmo Strikers |

London mayor says West fueled Islamic radicalism |

Israel's ambassador to London Zvi Heifetz accused the mayor of expressing sympathy for Palestinian militants. "It is outrageous that the same mayor who rightfully condemned the suicide bombing in London as perverted faith', defends those who, under the same extremist banner, kill Israelis," he said in a statement.
Actually I don't think that's what he's said at all. Understanding why someone would be angry enough to go to this sort of bombing is not the same as condoning it. In fact, it's probably the most important thing in preventing more people from taking that route. London mayor says West fueled Islamic radicalism |

Government Collected Personal Data On Airline Passengers |

The federal agency in charge of aviation security collected extensive personal information about airline passengers even though Congress forbade it and officials said they wouldn't do it
Why am I opposed to things like TSA and PATRIOT? Because they've demonstrated time and again they don't pay any attention to minor niceties like what's legal. Add to that the fact that they are notoriously bad at safeguarding that sort of information and you have a recipe for being a bigger threat than the one they are trying to stop. "What skill sets would they need to better identify, penetrate and/or prevent a future Osama bin Laden-style terrorist attack?" Kohn asked. Watson answered: "They would need to understand the attorney general guidelines for counterterrorism and counterintelligence investigation." "Anything else?" the lawyer inquired. "No," Watson answered.
Cool, so all I need to get a job at FB1 in counterterrorism is to understand a couple rules written by an idiot the magnitude of Ashcroft? Hell, let's just hire a few fourth graders. If anyone thinks the world is safer for Americans today than it was 4 years ago, they need their head examined. FBI Failed to Hire, Promote Terror Experts |
