King urged the Justice Department to "begin an investigation and prosecution of The New York Times," and Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, asked the administration to make an assessment of damage caused by the stories.
I'm confused. How is the re-disclosure of this (it was orginally cited in a UN report in 2002) threaten anything? The only NEW thing that has come out is that it looks like Congress wasn't notified that they were doing so, and Congress may not even need to be notified? Furthermore, why are they not calling for the heads of the LA Times and the Wall Street Journal? The bottom line is, this is bullshit. If they were honest about this, they'd be going after everyone, instead they're screaming "New York Times! New York Times!" like Chicken Little. The information has been out there and publically recommended by the UN for three and a half years. The only "threat" this news report was to national security was to George and Dick's continued tenure. The actual threat is less than zero. Now here's a better question and it's why are they REALLY so pissed off? Since the information is of little/zero use in going after terrorists, what were they actually doing with the information? Would it have anything to do with the phone records? How about all the data they have from ChoicePoint? How about the NSA rooms that appear to be designed to monitor the whole internet?
