"The militants believe that controlling one country will rally the Muslim masses, enabling them to overthrow all moderate governments in the region and establish a radical Islamic empire that spans from Spain to Indonesia," Bush said.

Isn't this the same thing (from the other side of the fence) that Bush is trying to do? Throw down one country and rally the entire Muslim world to American style democracy? I hate to say this but being a betting man, I'd bet on the Muslims. You can sometimes rally nationalism to fight between countries, but you can always rally God to fight within them.

What's worse is that by now framing the war in this way, the Muslim fundamantalists can use this and say that this is a holy war, and that we've been lying about what it was the entire time. Whether they are right about that is another question, but they can point to it and scream we are against Allah, that everything that has happened is because of that and make that charge stick.
