U.S. Diplomat's Letter of Resignation - nytimes.com
Topic: Current Events 11:26 am EST, Mar  1, 2003

The policies we are now asked to advance are incompatible not only with American values but also with American interests. Our fervent pursuit of war with Iraq is driving us to squander the international legitimacy that has been America?s most potent weapon of both offense and defense since the days of Woodrow Wilson. We have begun to dismantle the largest and most effective web of international relationships the world has ever known. Our current course will bring instability and danger, not security.

The resignation letter from John Brady Kiesling to Colin Powell. Requires registration with the NY Times.

"White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told Reuters the White House had offered a representative to counter what he said would be propaganda, lies and "irresponsible statements" by Saddam in the rare interview.

He said CBS replied it was interested only if President Bush made the response himself -- which he said the White House rejected on the grounds that it could imply a "moral equivalence" between the two leaders."

I've been thinking about it, and I've decided that I'm just not capable of understanding how someone could perceive this debris as "loot" or as a "souvenier" or (especially) attempt to sell it to the highest bidder. Perhaps it's just me.

An unnamed source in the Russian military command told the news service Russia's military leadership has received dates and scenarios of the invasion from their counterparts in the U.S.

The Interfax source, described as a high-ranking official at military headquarters in Moscow, said the invasion will begin once 150,000 U.S. troops are in place in bases around Iraq.

He said it will be a combined land, air and sea operation and American military planners expect the war to last less than a month.

Uncloaking Terrorist Networks
Topic: Current Events 6:57 pm EST, Dec 17, 2002

This site has a series of fascinating graphics showing the links within and between certain terrorist cells. It's from a study that was done about the social networks between the Al Qaeda terrorists. Very intriguing stuff, and I recommend a look.
