Papercrafting...Kirigami
Topic: Arts 8:53 pm EST, Dec 21, 2007

Every once in a while Livejournal.com comes out with neat little communities. One of which I stumbled on when looking up paper crafts. It's the Kirigami community and it's chock full of great little simple paper projects that only require a printer and double sided tape. Look at past entries of Homestar Runner playsets, cut paper work of castles, and star wars easter baskets.

Two brothers may need to find means to 'produce' some green....
Topic: Current Events 11:07 pm EDT, Aug 30, 2007

Two brothers from New Jersey have been fired from an A&P market for filming a rap video called “Produce Paradise.” Click here to check it out.

Yes, it’s juvenile and somewhat disgusting, and it reminds us all to thoroughly rinse our veggies when we get home from the grocery store. But Mark and Matthew D’Avellas claim they shot the video after hours with a manager’s permission, the desecrated produce was bought somewhere else, and the flyers used in the “special effects” came from another store. Now the AP (not to be confused with the A&P) reports the two are being sued for $1 million for defamation and lost business! A MILLION DOLLARS. The story states at least one customer is boycotting the store due to disgust. Wow. That one customer must eat a lot of produce.

Meantime, the fired duo is asking bloggers to complain and “Spread the word. Fight the power.” Oh yeah, and buy one of their “Fresh Beets” t-shirts. It’s a great country.

Ok I haven't figured out how to embed videos yet, but I heard this story on CNN this morning on the way to work and thought I'd share. It's pretty interesting, these two brothers, college students getting fired and later being sued $1 mil due to a complaint regarding this youtube video.

DIY Shrinky Dinks.
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:28 pm EDT, Aug 23, 2007

My parents are both science teachers: which means they always ruined the secrets to magic tricks, they forced me to identify every tree by leaf and bark type, and we always created our own versions of ‘science-y’ toys. We used to cook our Easy-Bake Oven meals with foil and a light bulb, and created our own slime with cornstarch and food coloring.
And, when we wanted our own shrinkable art, did we get the sweet pre-printed HeMan or Strawberry Shortcake sheets? Nope. We freehanded it on blank sheets of plastic, and copying the designs from coloring books. (Luckily, neither of my parents could draw, or else we might have had hand drawn versions of those, too.)
The process is simple. I don’t know what kind of Shrinky Dinks are available, if any, but I’ll always be able to make some on my own… I guess my parents actually taught me something. Nuts.

The website continues with steps on how to make your own personal shrinky dinks from recycled plastics.

A blast from the past.
