] As they walked along, Mike gave a shrug and a twitch just ] so. That was enough cue for his Epiphany wearable. Its ] overlay imaging shifted into classic manga/anime: the ] manzanita branches morphed into scaly tentacles. Now the ] houses that edged the canyon were heavily timbered, with ] pennants flying. High ahead was a castle, the home of ] Grand Duke Hwa Feen... [ Pretty decent... i always liked Vinge. -k] Vernor Vinge: Synthetic Serendipity |

] Vectorial Elevation is an interactive artwork that allows ] participants to transform the sky over Dublin, Ireland. ] Using a three-dimensional interface, this web site lets ] you design huge light sculptures with 22 robotic ] searchlights located on and around O%u2019Connell Street. ] A web page is made for each participant with photos of ] their design from four cameras located around the city. ] The piece will be live from April 22 to May 3, 2004 to ] celebrate the expansion of the European Union. Check out ] this video to see what the project looks like in Dublin. [ Pretty rad... this is the second major event I've seen (though I expect there have been more) which allowed internet users the oportunity to take part in an IRL activity by proxy -- controlling systems half a world away through public interfaces. I really hope this becomes more and more popular, letting everyone participate in the fun. -k] Vectorial Elevation, Relational Architecture 4 |

Pat Boone Says Censorship in the Arts is Healthy |

But then again....who in their right mind listens to Pat Boone? [ Well, if you start from a foundation in which your values are intrinsically and universally correct, for everyone, then it's easy to endorse censorship. Conservatives oppose anything which is counter to their traditional value structure, so art, which is often progressive, tends to always be at the top of that list. I've always sort of wondered how some conservatives can claim to support the first amendment. Ann You-can-say-what-you-want,-as-long-as-you-don't-disagree-with-me,-treasonous-liberal!" Coulter comes to mind. Seems like freedom of expression is counter to the core of the conservative ethos for a disturbing number of people. -k] Pat Boone Says Censorship in the Arts is Healthy |

] President Bartlet (Martin Sheen): I like how you call ] homosexuality an abombination. ] ] Jenna Jacobs: I don't say homosexuality is an ] abomination, Mr. President, the Bible does. ] ] President Bartlet: Yes, it does. Leviticus. ] ] Jenna Jacobs: 18:22. ] ] President Bartlet: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you ] a couple of questions while I have you here. I'm ] interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery ] as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown ] sophmore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table ] when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? ] While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of ] Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. ] Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I ] morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to ] call the police? Here's one that's really important ] because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: ] touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. ] Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the ] Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? ] Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be ] together to stone my brother John for planting different ] crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small ] family gathering for wearing garments made from two ] different threads? Think about those questions, would ] you? Found this the other day and thought the Memestreams audience should share the laugh. FYI: The stoning commences tomorrow. ] Most cool family tree of electronic music. Includes sound clips representative of ] each genre. ] ] This is most cool. yeah, this is badass. i've heard about 60% of the tracks i clicked on, and i'm no where near being an aficionado of electronic music. I've got a some Daft Punk and some Crystal Method and i when i was a kid i listened to a fuckload of Ray Lynch and old Eno-inspired stuff i can't name anymore. I'm not sure if the kiddies would approve, but to me, this is a really cool presentation of an increasingly complicated set of incestuous genres. Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music |
